2000 Cavalier Vs Sunfire DRL Differences
Saturday, March 03, 2007 2:49 PM
Just a question of curiosity. I was reading through my Hanes manual and I noticed that there is a wiring difference between the Sunfire and Cavalier cars. On the Sunfire it looks like there is a wire that connects the left side lo beam headlight directly to its 15 amp fuse. While on the cavalier it seems the left lo beam is supplied power through the DRL relay with a jumper wire.

I perused the forums here and saw something about disabling DRL only leaving one high beam working.....

So can anyone fill me in on the blanks here. Why the differences and what am I missing. The wiring diagram is a little confusing, from what I see it shouldn't work. I am obviously reading it wrong.

well dependinging on the year it is correct. sunfires use 9007 bulbs from 95-02, then 9005 and 9006 03-05, cav uses 9005 and 9006 95-99, then 9007 00-05. so depending on the year they are the same

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

Depends how you disabled the DRL's... if you hack it (pull the relay, jumper wire, etc) then it might not work right. If you fool the car into thinking the low beams are on, it will turn the DRLs off for you... (that's how I recommend it). That way, your high beams will work properly.

The 95-99 method is cut the one dark blue wire to the cluster. The 00-05 method is to cut the dark blue wire to the BCM, and ground the module side. Pretty easy, especially compared to the "remove dash, open cluster, put tape over the flashing DRL light" hack method....

Do it right, less side effects

I have a 2000 cavalier. I am not really sure what the difference is between the 9007 and 9005 bulbs. But I was more referring to making sense of the wiring diagram. Your post may have made more sense to me if I knew the differences between those bulbs though..

looking at the drawing seems like only the left side of the car is wired differently. The right side of the car doesn't seem to have DRL wired into it. Like I said though I am sure I am reading something wrong.

9007 bulb has both low and high beams in one bulb on two separate filaments. 9005 and 9006 bulbs are single filament bulbs, one bulb for high beams and one for lows.
