My sister works at a gas station over night and last night she found a 12" Alpine sub just sitting on one of the trash cans. We hooked it up to my amp (300w Jensen, I know it sucks) and it had a little rattle to it but overall it looked fine. Any help on what can go wrong and if there is any way to get it looked at by a professional?

can u locate where the rattle is from?
Go Premium, it builds character!
I'll try and find out. My sis took it with her to toy with it and i'm trying to snatch it from her before it ends up like her other subs (unused).

get an ohm meter and check the resistance of the sub....from there...if you get continuity you know its in the sub leads somewhere (i.e. could be a broken lead to a open up coil...anything really) if your measuring the proper resitance then check for structural damge....if both check out put something low ...like 60 hz through it untill u get some movement ...then slowly increse it to its rms rating....ifits fine then hey...new sub...
Rattle? Like tinny sounding? I think that's a burnt coil, if I'm thinking of the right sound anyway. I know my old pioneer 10" made a weird metallic sound right before it blew.

you want to bump, then they will bump and hit real hard and a lot good.
LOL
Well it looks like I'd need a pro to look at it since I'm not too good working on electronics that I'm unfamiliar with. Would an audio store be able to look at it or is there someone special I'd have to find to check it over?

Take it to a Mobile Audio shop. An Alpine authorized dealer would be really nice. Have them test it out and let them give you an evaluation.

SOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!
