Alarm Questions

I am looking into getting a 2 way alarm with remote start. Here's a link to an alarm I am looking at.

Questions:

1. How hard is it to wire the car alarm and hook it up?
2. How difficult is it to setup the remote start?
3. Is this alarm a decent alarm?
4. Is there any How To's on installing an alarm and remote start?

btw my car is an 2002 4 speed auto

Thanks in advance

To answer your questions the best I can...

1) It isn't too difficutl. Basic electricity theory and some hand tools are needed. If you don't know, ask here! If you still don't know, find a friend or even a shop to help/do it for you.

2) The remote start is combined in the same unit. Every RS is different in terms of programming. You will need a bypass unit for your vehicle. A local Circuit City or Best Buy or any other audio shop will have them. I will suggest you hook up the tach wire with it.

3) Judging by the picture, my main concern would be the gauge of the wires. They look thin. The primary wires (those that go to the ignition switch) should be around 12AWG. That is just my opinion and I do not install any alarm or RS with thin primaries. Also, my Viper alarm/RS box is huge comparied to that one in the picture. Could be the different brand or it could be considerabely less versitile or just cheaper, in terms of quality. I don't know anything about that one, just judging by the picture. Also, $84 is very cheap comparied to any shop. I paid $200 for mine from an internet site (sucks I can't remember it).

4) I don't know of any how-to's on the .org. But...expect to spend several hours if it is your first one. I would set aside a weeked to do it. Judging by Directechs, it doesn't seem too difficutl an installation.

Feel free to post more questions, should you have them!

Sam

That unit looks downright scary. One, i see small amperage fuses, two, the wires are very thin. Plus the unit is tiny. I know they're coming out with newer and better things, but that one gives me an inch in my ribs. 3000 foot range? I highly doubt it. Why not hit up the group buy? The Mars-33 has everything you need, plus the 2 way, and is a solid unit. Plus you get the bypass module, and which wires you need to go where.

Any comments on this one?

Lanman I looked at the gp but right now that setup is out of my price range at the moment.

^^^^ same deal with that one, it's crap. With car electronics, you get what you pay for, and if you think about it, by the time you pay for shipping, and get a bypass module, you're just about at the group buy price, with something name-brand and quality.
