well i was thinking bout running one ten inch H2 orion off a orion 2500d for spl comps but i am told i will be in street A whis means i go against guys or girls lol with two 10" subs and maybe double the power...how am i suppose to compete against that! any help appreciated
get more stuff, build design, more power, etc
Look your always going to have people bigger and louder in your class. The best is to tweek yours better then they did theirs. You could build a massively insane box for one sub. Heck I think some dude was winning with one 15 back in the day.
Compete with what you have and try your best or save your money and get more stuff.
I've heard some bad things about those orion H2's, they blow with less than rms power, all kinds of crazy stuff.
well my point im trying to make is that 1 10" versus two 10" subs just isnt fair...if everyone thinks its fair then why are one 15" subs competing against two 12" subs? see my point? I know you can add more power, build a better design andso on, but come on if some rules apply then shouldnt they apply with all subs?
Not really. I'll give you a perfect example - wysiwig has 2 15's, I have 4 12's. He's running ~2500 rms, I'm running ~3600 rms. He's hitting 150, I'm hitting 144. He's got a wall, I don't.
If you are competing..you need to use the rules to your advantage and build your car to fit the class.
Are you competing in meca or what?

but lanman, because he has a wall doesnt that put him in a totally different class than you?
wysiwig, well if im gonna compete for sure this year, it will mostly be the CSPL and IASCA what is meca?
reason im talking bout one 10" is because I have it, but im still thinking bout a wall with either 1 18" or 2 15" havent decided, but thats why i am asking bout the rules for 1 10" versus' 2 10" because i just dont see how 1 10" can compare to 2 10" because the two tens have 20 inches of cone area twice that of just one, you know what i mean? if i do one ten should build a wall for it lol like really, in a cavalier what are my best options to beat out two tens?
Im told that I need to build a box at 1.5 cubic feet tuned to 35.6 hertz, that seems low and small for this sub , btw, (its a 10.2 H2 orion running off a 2500d with electrical upgrades and 0awg), any suggestions on what I should do?
If you want SPL, do 1.5 cubes tuned to 42 hertz.

meca, dbdrag, iasca, all organizations for what your doing.
Like i said, you need to build for your class. If you are able to run a pair of 10's and stay in the same class, then do it.

lanman...so say keep it 1.5 cubes but tune it to 42 instead of 35.6? do i keep it as trunk box facing the sub forwards with the trunk sealed off?
wysiwig...your saying try to get another 10.2 H2 ? will my 2500 be good enough to run two and still be very competitive in that class?

It depends, you need to find out what other people are scoring in the class you are building for. so you have an idea on what you need to beat.

If you build a wall, you won't be in street class anymore

what will that put me in?
The class they put you in depends on how many batteries, amps etc. Rather than being lazy here, you really should go to the termpro site and read up on dbdrag rules yourself. There are alot of little things that can bump you up into the next class if you're not careful.
As for how your subs should be installed, listen to Wysi - build it for a certain class, and remember the limitations of your vehicle. Every cavalier is different - some guys are louder with subs and ports both facing back, some are louder with the subs/ports forward, sealed off from the rest of the trunk, some are louder CRX-style, and anything in between. The only way you'll know what works in your car is to experiment and test. We can't tell you.
If you're going to be running 1-2 tens, stick with street A. If you go with 2 batteries, they'll bump you up into C against guys running 4-12s, 2-15s, 1-18 etc. I don't recommend trying to compete with a walled car and small subs. You will be absolutely crushed in SM and SS by guys running 18s and huge power if you build a wall for 2-10" H2s. I'm not saying that to be an ass, but in all likelihood that will be the case unless you're an install god. But it looks like you're new to competitions, so I doubt it.
If you go with street A, get the largest battery you can afford that will physically fit under the hood. To give you an idea, I've personally seen with my own eyes a Hawker 1700 wedged into a 2.2ohv car. He had to tinker around with a few aftermarket intakes before the battery would fit, but it does.
But the first thing you should do is check out the dbdrag rulebook.

well i think i might stay with the one 10 for now since that class (street A) is a little easier to win in then street B
there are so many variables that to some the diffrence between one sub and two subs isnt a big deal. if one sub is allot more effiecent then the two subs, it will be able to produce more spl. if u have one serious spl sub versus two run of the mill store subs the single sub could be just as loud. and the most importantly of all install has more to do with the sound the the name stamped on the speaker. if you want to get into competition seriously find out wich orginasation you will compete in and get the rule book and read it from page to page and then maximise your system to take advantage of every rule. if you just plan on doing it for fun here and there then just keep what you have, start competing and learn to maximise the spl in the system you have. you will learn allot more by working on the system you have to gain more spl then just trying to go to a store and throw money at it buying more gear to try and gain spl.
