I have a jl 500/1 amp powering 2 alpines right now ( i just bought them, thanks clint

) -- anyways, it sounds like the amp is choking out, although Im not sure if it is or not. the speakers crack when i turn it up, and the lights in the car dim A LOT. I have a cap, and i will be upgrading the big 3 eventually, however is the amp im using powerful enough for these speakers?
Type R's can take quite a bit of power, your amp is just geting them warmed up but not a work out. I had 1100 watts rms to a 2 type 2 12's, it was sweet, sounded amazing in terms of quality and hit low and hard, vey very nice setup for daily use.
well the 500/1 puts out 500 watts anywhere between 1.5-4 ohms and alpine type-r's take 500 watts each. So no your amp is not big enough i would suggest getting another 500/1 and running one on each sub. Im not gonna say whats already be said about caps. but do the big 3 and either get a new battery. or get you alternator rebuilt / get a new one.
I do plan on doing the big 3 upgrade and im in need of a new alternator anyways (bad bearings)..
what amp should i get that i can run both of the subs off of in parallel?
thanks for the help!
jl 1000/1 alpine mrd 1005 orion 1200d usamps 1000 theres alot to choose from just put 1000 watts to those puppies and you will be very happy
I ran mine off a Viper D1200.1 @ 1ohm. they were seeing 1200RMS on a daily basis and they seemed to like it.

2009 Ford Mustang V6
been running a jbl 1200.1 on a single type R for awhile now, it loves it, lol
you should easily be able to hit low 140's with a single type r

not to steal this thread but what size ported do you guys use??
BTW that orion amp would be nice
You definitly want at least 1000w going to them...
And If you head over to the car audio forums, theres tons of people pushing twice that to two 12's
They are really underrated, and If I didnt want something a little different, id be sticking with them...
