Sunfire Tachometer Signal Source

Where does the Tach Signal come from on a '96 Sunfire 2.2 ? The Crank Sensor, the Ignition Module, or both ? I know the PCM sends it through the UART/Serial Data Line to the Instrument Panel Cluster. But the PCM gets it from somewhere.

Thanks...

PONTIAC, SUNFIRE, 1996, Tachometer

The engine harness is found next to the battery, below the radiator hose, just above the transaxle. Use white or orange on the 2.2L motor, and purple/white on the 2.4L motor.

Are you saying the Ignition Module sends the signal to the I/P Cluster ? If so, how does the Ignition Module know when to fire ? I'm "out of the loop" on this one. I need to pull a signal from a 3800SC and send it to the I/P Cluster on my Sunfire. I know where the Tach wire is on the 3800SC, and I was hoping I could just use the Crank Sensor on the 3800SC to send a Signal to the Sufire I/P Cluster. Are you really lost now ???

Do you know if this information would hold true for a '95 Cavalier with the 2.2L engine? about which wire to use to get the tach signal?
