Will this work?
I've got a 2000 Z24 with the factory cd player.
A friend of mine bought a 06 Colorado that came with a MP3 disk playable deck.
He almost immediately changed out his stocker for an aftermarket.
He offered me his factory deck for my car.
Is it possible that all I have to do is simply swap one for the other?
No. I will give you the long-to-short version of my ordeals with swapping out to a newer stereo than the one that came in my 2004 Cavalier.
I bought a 2005 MP3 Deck of the same style/variety as the 2005 MP3 deck in the Cavaliers. When I went to install it, me and the guy at the dealership couldn't get it to set up at all with the GM Tech Tool. They told me to get ahold of Delphi
When I got ahold of Delphi, I more or less was told that the Newer Type-II Radios no longer used a code system to break them out of "Lock" or "Locked" mode and that the system would have to be set up using the GM Tech Tool.
When I explained that we tried this, and that it wouldn't work, and that I got the radio from Ebay from a newer Silverado, I was told that the Trucks in the GM line have slightly different software installed on them (173 Sound System) versus the software used in their car radio systems (153 Sound System. I'm assuming these are version numbers).
I asked Delphi if I could ship the radio to them and have it converted and more or less got told to piss off.
So to answer that, nah, it probably won't work
Which reminds me. Anyone need a factory GM truck MP3 Deck?
Question, what about one from a newer car. For example i have an '02 sunfire with rds cd player. Friend of mine has an '05 sunfire with rds mp3. He is getting a new head unit and asked if i wanted the other unit. Would that work.. just plug and play? they look the same and the plugs seem the same.
only one problem most gm radios have a anti teft system to prevent the stock radios nomatter the model to only work with the original cars vin programed into the computer that it came with so if its stolen it locks out and will not work in any other car atall read ur owner's manuel its all in their my friend looke dinto it for his fire going from cd to my cd casst mp3 player model. nope dont work.
