ok, well, heres the deal. last year i was running (2) 13.5" JL w1v2's and a Kenwood KAC-7203. I was planning on doubling this setup to (4) JL 13.5's and 2 of the kenwood amps. but now im having second thoughts. its going into a show setup and will be loud regardless, but now im considering (2) 18" Kicker SoloX subs.
what do you guys think? should i go with the original JL idea, the SoloX idea, or something totally diffrent? i want it to slam but i also need it to be a clean uniform install. the one thing i dont like is the red color in the solox subs since it dosent really go with my color scheme(i know it sounds dumb, but im anal, lol).
also, if I were to go with the SoloX subs, what would you guys think i should power them with??
go with the 18s, just because its going to be a show setup. its different and crazy and thats what draws peoples attention. thats just my opinion.
^^^i agree. its not often u see 18" subs in a show setup.
anyone have experience with the MA audio 18's??
definitely go with the 18s...those will turn some heads just with pure looks and then you can turn them on
You're going to need a big bastard box for 2 18's, even with the whole trunk and most of the back seat you're going to be hurting for cubes my friend. The MA Audio - if you're talking about the MA1800XL then they're pretty darn good. I'm definitely diggin my MA audio amps, and i've run their subs before. If you're going with the blue scheme, check out some MA HK12X2's or HK15x2's. Another thing i'm going to suggest is much bigger sub amps. Use the kenwood to run your front stage.
you can do two 18s in a wall no problem eazy. BTW the Xs dont sound bad at all. Id rock em and considered them briefly. If you need some box help you let me know and i can put you in touch with some folks. Power for a kx 2500.1 each or whatever new amp they are bringing out
Nate - don't forget he has air ride and compressors in the trunk.
you can get away with about 8 cubes for an 18 with his glass skills he can pull that off in the backseat area i bet. or run them sealed. but you are right jeff I forgot about all his other goodies.
thanks guys...ya, the box will be the ENTIRE back seat, prolly right upto the rear deck. i already have the wells glassed so i can get as much air space as possible back there.
and ya, the kenwood amp will get sold off if i go this way.
n8ball - 8 cu. ft. per sub??
yea your goin to need about 8 per sub, i saw a guy with a 12 in a sealed box and it didn't sound that good and didn't get loud.
ill go with 2 15's or 18's in a wall. you can look at fi audio also they are made by the guy that started re. you can run there ssd or q's in 6-10 cubes each.
oh and just to let you know the Q is said to sound the same as the 05 XXX's but get louder on the mic
need i say more?

Brad (xtremespl) killed that X twice in his Celica - once off a Z1 and once off a Colossus. If you're going to get a solo-x, make sure it's the new and improved version, because many, MANY people managed to kill their originals off 2500-3000wrms daily. The X did fine for burps, but I wouldn't recommend it for daily with any kind of real power behind it.
I'm with Cavi in KC on this - look into FI if you're after 18s. Good subs and excellent customer service.

*wipes tears from eyes*
^^^^^^ I've heard the same thing. If you go with FI's you can pop eyeballs out!
how much them fi 18's run roughly?? im at work and i cant get to the website. it says "proxy avoidance"
a fully loaded BTL is under 500 i believe
BTL = wholesome goodness. And if I may make a suggestion - the Lanzar Optidrive subs I have work well in small enclosures - you wouldn't need a huge box to get big sound.

they go from $230-$499
the ssd's are the lower line but they have a 800 watt rms
the Q's can handle around 1500 rms
the BL's can handle around 2000 watt's on up
the btl's can burp over 10,000 watts and 3000-4000 rms i think
your goin to have to look at them since you can upgrade alot of the sub's, anything from them is a good pick jsut match the r.m.s..
you can also click me for there fourm
im sure yo uread about the re xxx, thats about the same as the Q and the btl is kinda liek a re MT but louder and better for everyday use.
oh and if you do pick fi just find out how much power you want to use and go from there they have a sub for just about anything
