Will I ruin the integrity of my sub woofer box by using a 3/4 in piece of plexi glass for a window?
That's what I did with my sub box, seemed to hold up well. Haven't had any issues as of yet.

for a 1/2 thick box 3/4 holds the same strength in plexi. 3/4 mdf 1 inch plexi get it?
Yep, I understand it perfectly. Iv done plexi plenty of times, but never one a box that really mattered. So before I go ahead and do it on this one, I wanted to make sure it was going to hinder my performance. Guess Ill have to up the thickness a little..
how much power are you running and what subs. you may be fine with the half inch.
The thickness is not really the issue here. That is a common misconception. It actually depends on the shear modulus and the bulk modulus of the material you are working with.
Shear Modulus Basically what it means is how much force, or pressure a certain material can take before its structure is compromised. So its not just the thickness that matters, the area, or how big this plexi-glass windows also matters. If its and inch by an inch, that's a lot different than being 12 inches by 12 inches.
I didn't bother to figure this out when I built my box. For one, its almost impossible to find the correct shear and/or bulk modulus of the material you are working with. You can find them, but it is an average for that material, and not exactly what you are working with. Anyway, what I'm trying to get at is that 3/4" should be plenty. I have 3/4" plexi in my box and it is a 12" by 12" square. I am pushing 2 JL 12w6v2's with 1200 watts and have no issues. And whatever amount the plexi-glass bends, it's actually going to be less than that of the wood. Take a piece of 3/4" MDF and a piece of 3/4" plexi of the same size. Try and bend them. I bet you will be able to bend and break the MDF before the plexi. The structural makeup of the plexi is simply much more closer bonds than that of MDF. If you really wanna make sure it won't bend or break, get a piece of polycarbonate...even tougher than plexi. But be prepared to pay a hefty price. IMO, not worth it.

rosario if you have any questions ask this guy. he may have built a few plexi boxes(not just panels) this is the guy that originally told me what i said the first time i believe. BTW his boxes are Pimp as hell.
the man has skills
WOW....thanks to both of you
