Going to work on installing my Daughter's new speakers and HU I got her for Christmas over the Holiday. Any step by step on how to take the door panels off and the rear deck? TIA
This is a 1995 Cavalier BTW.

For the rear deck, skip steps 2-4
Thanks for that! That is just great.
Just wondering why skip steps 2-4? That basically looks to just bring out the center section then. Will it come without removing the side pieces?

You're quite welcome

Its extra unnecessary work. Since the rear speakers are under the rear deck cover (the center section) no sense removing the sides.
It will come out without removing the sides.
Well I worked on this yesterday. On the dash cover removal I busted a bunch of stuff!

It says in there to pry up on the dash pad.... well on the side where the air-bag is I tried and tore the dash pad! Then finally I busted all the clips that hold it down around the air-bag. The way they push in and get tighter as you push I don't see how you could possibly pull on anything to ease it up unless you bust all of them off which is what I did! You POSSIBLY could get to the two front ones with a screwdriver but the rear ones no way! You would need to push them up from the bottom which I don't see happening. In looking at it I don't know if I would have taken it to an audio shop if their success would have been any better. Maybe they have special tools?
The door panels come off easy and straight forward. No problems there other than on the driver's side I had a little fitment problem getting the sail panel back around the mirror adjustment knob and back into position. Finally got it though!
The rear deck will not come straight out skipping 2-4. As a matter of fact I had to take the entire left side driver's side apart and the lower trim on the passenger side apart. Even then the carboard tray is in there with glue and is tight which you have to manhandle. In doing so flexing the board (bending it at the edges) caused the plastic pieces (seat belt guides) to break in the middle. Maybe if EVERYTHING had been removed for a straight shot and pulling from the center only I may have been able to get it out without it snapping them. Maybe!
So I may have to get a new dashpad depending on how it goes back together and how it looks

ive never had to remove the entire dashpad while removing the trim for a deck install in my cars.
my 98 was easier, but even in my 97 i just held the dash pad up and undid the bolts and screws with my free hand. in my 97 i did undo the front defog vent though.
the rear deck is a little bit of a pain in the arse. i uncliped the plastic side trims tha wrap from inside the car into the trunk. i didnt completely remove them, but i did pull them forward into the cabin of the car. i cant remember but i believe i damaged one of my seatbelt trim pieces too, but it holds in there fine still.

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. It's not always necessary to take the extra panels off, however I've learned that by doing so, you aviod breaking stuff. And taking the dash and interior panels off is really easy.
If I can help you out with anything else you are installing/uninstalling, let me know (just shoot me a PM).
Good luck
Sounds like some of the problems I am seeing others had them as well which makes me feel better. The flimsy seatbelt guide pieces I don't know how it would be possible pushing in those areas without them snapping. Maybe on the dash pad I could have gotten the three screws at the top out to get the dash trim out but I didn't really try and the instructions said to remove the whole dash top.

Anyone successful in removing that upper dash pad without breaking ANYTHING?

ive taken mine in and out about 30-40 times in the past year and never once broke anything....maybe its cuz ive been taking it off from day 1 i got the car, so its used to it, where as older cars may go years without taking it off, and it becomes brittle.....
not sure, but hope it goes better for u next time

I've taken mine out twice and didn't have to remove the side panels <shrugs>
Um, i just did everything you are asking about today........well i have a sunfire so its a little different for the deck, but as for the rear, i simply crack a little piece of plastic. And i dotn know why you were taking the whole dash off. All you need to do is take the trim out. if you need help just let me know. ill see what i can do.
i got the infinity 6x9 3 ways the biggest pain in the ass to mount ever im not even done but i was bending and cutting metal off the rear deck to make them fit i dont get it how 6x9's cant fit in a 6x9 hole
i had the same problem putting my jl 6x9s in.....im hoping you ddint cut to much, cuz what i did was drill from the bottom us (thru the metal) and use a template the speakers came with (or make one, so you know where each drill hole is) but what i suggest is mounting them on the bottom. I did this and my speakers still sound amazing. (if you want i can send you some pics.)
