How do the 2 compare in amps? i know Rockford underrates their amps alittle and i know mine sounds good. I never heard a Alpine amp tho but i do have 2 of their type-es and i like them alot. I jsut wanna know how their amps compare to each other
I NEED A 00-02 SUNFIRE RK SPORT REAR LIP AND A 95-99 SUNFIRE WW FRONT LIP PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF U WANNA SELL!!
I have an older alpine amp and no problems at all. Even after playing for long periods of time, if anything, it's warm. I do know that alpine underrates their amps because the 2 new ones I got have certificates and both are about 50 watts over the stated.
As far as rockford, i have no idea, never used um, lol.

old school mtx FTW. they were doing 12.5VDC underrating long before any of these "big" amps were IMO. most amps are rated at 14.4VDC when stock charging systems cant even push that kind of power
they also pretty much started the birth certificate for the amps.
Well i was just thinkin of maybe pickin up an old Apline amp someone has for sale on here for $50+shipping and using it to replace my P2002 RockFord amp. Think it might be a good idea?

get the new series of alpine they are WAY WAY WAY under rated for what they say. my friend who runs an audio video store just got one. i like the style and size. very small but pack a heck of a punch. but if you go fosgate... bd1500

ehh there were companies doing that way before mtx. some old orions that did 1/4 watt at 4 ohms but did 1000 watts at 1 ohm lol
as far as wich is better its a tossup really everyone has their own likes. the new rockford stuff is looking to be really top notch. the pieces a few years back werent as good then the stuff back 10 years ago was also supurb. alpine stuff has been pretty good lately. the f#1 stuff was really cool. it all just depends. main thing to keep in mind is if one amp is putting out 500 watts and one amp is putting out 550 wattts your not going to be able to tell the diffrence really anyway.

I've never been a fan of Rockford, and have had bad luck with their subs in the past. I have never actually owned a Rockford amp myself, but a few of my friends have, and I wasn't too impressed. If I had to pick, I'd lean towards Alpine.

Sndsgood hit the nail directly on the head. Couldn't agree with him more.
Old-school RF was top-notch; new RF amps appear to be very good. IMO, the stuff from ~1998-2002 was overpriced, inefficient mediocrity (but at least they could be used to fry eggs lol). I used to play with the old-school oval-shaped Punch amps, and miss them. I don't miss the stuff from the late 90s/early 00s at all. I've got more than one rant on here regarding that stuff lol. I used to be a huge hater of Rockford until their most recent amps came out. Now it seems that all I have to complain about is the price.
I think Alpine has gotten consistently better over time. I wouldn't consider their gear great (except for the F#1 gear for SQ), but the upper lines are good and well worth the money. I had reliability issues with my old-school, pre-V12 amps, but friends had nothing but good luck with newer Alpine gear.
My vote easily goes to RF.

With that amp, do you have to buy special plugs for the sub then? Cuz that doesn't look like it's wire-friendly.
IM A LITTLE PARTIAL TO ALPINE MYSELF. JUST A LITTLE

alpine.
always have been and always will be better quality than fosgate. dont know about the amps as much but the subs arent too hard to blow. my buddy is on his third set in 3 years and they are blown now too. i think i finally got him to sway away from them when he buys new subs.
Funny because I've been running 1200 watts to a T210 for about 6 months now... no problems. Maybe tell your friend to match wattage better, or not buy their cheap @!#$. I stick with Alpine for my HU's, but all of my speakers right now are RF Power series.

He could be underpowering them genius and still kill them if its clipping, / a bad signal. AND from experience from WORKING in a shop, Fosbrake is among the gear we see going south. followed closely by Audiobahn, and flea market junk

Underpowering? Last I checked you couldn't kill a sub by underpowering. And how is a bad signal RF's fault? AND from your experience WORKING in an audio shop, how much of the Fosgate stuff 'going south' was their high-end audio?
timler. back in the day alpine couldnt even come close to rockfords quality quality went down in the late 90's but now things are really turning around for them. as for your buddy. i generaelly feel you can have 1 set go south on you and it be a product fault but if he has blown 3 sets in 3 years i'd bet money its not on the speaker and its on the owner itself. in 15 years of this hobby ive probalby have 20 diffrent brands of audio. from cheap jenson up to high quality gear and ive never blown a sub accidentily.
pilz he didnt nessicarily say underpowering them killed them he said the guy could be underpowering them an be clipping the signal. and clipping the signal will do it.
shorthand. i bet if you can get ahold of percentages of reapairs that audiobahn breaks way more then rockford does.

I love rockford to death, but you will blow a sub quicker by underpowering it than overpowering it, something to do with the voice coils i believe?
I've been wrong before, but generally I've heard and believed that underpowering can't kill a sub. And even if he was underpowering them and that led to them being blown, that's still the fault of the owner like sndsgood said. I'd go as far as to say any sub on the market will last just fine if you power it correctly and don't blast the hell out of it.
Underpowering - jesus I hate that term...
CLIPPING will kill speakers, not giving a speaker less power than it's rated to take!!!
Buying an amp that puts out less power (at it's rated THD) than a speaker can take will hurt ABSOLUTELY NOTHING unless you crank up the gains to the point where it sends clipped power to that speaker, or your electrical is not strong enough to feed that amp. Way too many people think that the gain is a volume knob. The sticky is there for a good reason.
Clipped power, overpowering and overexcursion are what usually kill speakers, not giving a speaker less clean power than it's rated to take.

Ding Ding DIng !
AND Fosgate older stuff, such as the orginal punch series amps were fantastic peices of gear. BUT I am not comparing the older stuff to older stuff, I am talking about here and now.

yeah underpowering a speaker will in no way hurt it whatsoever.
i know most of the undustry last year was all excited over the new rockford gear coming out. they had some old names (guys that made the punch line famous) come back to work for them. i havnt gotten to test any of it myself but i'd be the gear starts improving allot from what it has been in the past. now this may not change for the low end gear since the low end gear is basically the one step highers gear from the year before but id bet the high end stuf is improving.
