Subs work but no bass...

First off I'll give you my equipment so you know what I'm working with:

(HU) Pioneer Premier 200W Super Tuner IIID
(AMP) Visonik 400W RMS 2-way Amp
(SUBS) 2x 10" Blaupunkt 600W Peak subs in a closed box.
(Speakers) Stock door units, and Pioneer 180W 6x9's

I had this setup in my car before and it worked perfect. My car broke down and I pulled my HU, subs, and amp out. My HU went into my truck while I drove it around and my amp and subs stayed in my room. My car is up and running now and I put my system back in. Everything works, my amp turns on, and sound comes out of my subs because I have the amp set to full HPT so I get the bass and the sound. You can see the cones move on the subs when I play music. Sound comes out but no bass. I have not touched the settings at all on the amp, and I have the HU setup the way I always set it up. So for the hell of it I went ahead and turned the settings on the amp all the way up for full bass and the same with my HU and I get a tiny bit of bass but not near anywhere I should be. Before I took everything out of the car I could pop in a bass test cd and my rear view mirror fell off. Now I'm not getting anything at all out of them but the music from the song. Any ideas?

Test all connections, pull the subs out of the box and see if the wires came loose?

Are you saying you have them on a High Pass Filter? If so... thats not they way to go. You need subs on a Low Pass Filter because subs are made to play the Low notes in a song. Make sure the amp is getting plenty of power. Make sure all fuses are good, all wires have good non corrded connections, make sure your ground is good and check all speaker wires. Also check your signal cables. Make sure they are connected on the right ports on the back for the HU and the amp.

also make sure one sub is not out of phase from the other, wiring it backwards can do this, but generally you will hear distortion from a setup like that.

Oh, another thing I forgot to mention. The subs were already in the box when I bought them. The guy I bought them from said he has the subs crossed over inside the box. Because one of the terminals that you connect the wires to broke on the box and he never replaced them. And I was looking over the subs a bit better earlier and seen that both subs are only being held in by 3 what looks like wood screws. I never noticed this before because they always worked great. Could that pose a problem? I'm going to go ahead and buy new screws and put them in all the holes.

Take them out, and check the wires inside the box

also put a screw in every hole the subs have on the mounting face, yes leaks can make it quieter. like all said recheck al wiring and seal the box the best you can

I just went out there to pull the subs out and the wireing is fine, I looked over the wireing on my amp it is fine. But I noticed something for some reason I thought I had the amp set on HPF when it is set on FULL. So for subs I should put it on LPF? I'll check the wireing out behind my HU and see if setting it on LPF helps any after I get all the screws back in the subs. Any other ideas?

yes put it on low pass, that may be your issue right there.

Ah, sweet sound of bass . Fixed em! Thanks for your help guys. I was screwing the subs back into the box when I second glanced the wireing. It hit me like a ton of bricks. Not sure how this happened but well it did, some how the wires on the back of one of the subs was switched. Think it might of been the time I had a friend look at them because I was thinking about selling them. Anyways I looked even harder at the wires and noticed that one did not look right as it passed under the board seperating the subs. It was like an opitcal illusion I just had to trace the wire back. So all is fixed and they are back to their bass pounding glory.

One more question, is it ok to run my amp at FULL? Because I kind of like the bass and music coming through the subs at the same time. Or down the road could that damage my subs? If so I'll leave them on LPF. I don't know much about audio and Bass systems I just know how to hook them up that is about it. Can somebody explain to me what HPF, FULL, and LPF mean, and what their uses are for? Thanks again for all of your help.

i wouldn't run full, lpf will be fine. yup the sub was just out of phase. hpf filters out low frequencies allowing higher frequencies to pass, lpf does vice versa allowing low fequencies to pass anf full really has no filter except maybe a subsonic filter. in a nut shell

dayton hit filters on the head (in a nutshell) if you want the textbook definitons of a filter, i'll give it, but its long and technical (im in school for general electronics, specializing in radio repair, so im kinda well versed in filters), but basically, a low pass filter, passes low freq, like 15-100 hertz, high pass filters pass high freq, like 100 + hertz, and full, allows all freq's to pass.......so for a sub, use Low pass filter

and yeah, one sub wired backwards will cause a 180 degree phase shift, which is the theory of operation of noise cancelling headphones, a phase shifted noise of the same amplitude and frequency will cancel both freq's. with your subs wired like that, i bet if you put your hand on one of the subs, you'd feel it rising in and out, like its working fine, but due to noise cancellation, you hear nothing
