Last I knew, the viper 791xv was king. I hear of systems with 1 mile range....any truth to that? granted the 791 never actually reaches its quarter mile range...but....still it's pretty good range. I swear by directed electronics....so anything else...save it...I like the reputation and reliability of directed
if some asshat is setting it off with an exhaust or music you should probably turn your sensitivity down. compustar has the one with super range i think. also a bunch of the different companies market the same alarms under their company names.
i have an autopage in mine. it was spose to be the top of the line last summer (at least its the best one i was told, in this area) ansd i acctually had them add stuff to make it better. it didnt come with a microwave sensor (radar), so i bought one and had them install it, as well as an extra siren mounted under the rear bumper. my alarm is frickn badass, loudest one ive ever heard anyways. and i can leave it in my garage armed, and if you open the garage door... it goes off! but its not too sensitve, cars that go by dont set it off nor do loud stereos.
and my pager reaches at least a 1/4 mile away. its awesome, i can start my car and it'll take me another 3-5 mins to get to it and its all ready to go.
i paid $560 for the whole shabang. best $560 i ever spent on a car.
I know there is a new Viper coming out (with a 1 mile range) I think it's already on Ebay....its like a s-something I think,
There is also a new Autopage coming out with a OLED Screen. Looks nice but don't know if it's worth 900$.
The New GM factory units are awesome too, they tell you everything....Tire pressure, gas level, milage...yeah look up GM remote start on Google...

Everything Louder than Everything else
get the autostart AS-6000iTW-FM
3000' range, 2 way remote, FM, 130db siren, 2 stage shock sensor
Omega is where it's at. Not only do they make fantastic alarms and remote starts, but they have this gizmo that's better than lojack. You can lock and unlock your doors via computer, track your car if it would get stolen, all kinds of neat things.

I had the audiovox 996...and you couldn't give me another one. I went through 4!!! brains. This is why I was aiming for directed electronics cuz it has a lifetime warranty, and I KNOW it's gonna still work 3 years down the road.
I don't like compustar, it looks generic, the remote is HUGE...nah just not for me
I was lookin at the new SST viper responders....285 online...just gotta install it myself, which isn't a big deal I've done it before.
My main concern is reliability...anyone have any issues with theirs at all?
i know this is kind of an old topic but dont omega and clifford use directed electronics programming? so all in all viper is still among the best available..... i do need to get rid of my damn gm car alarm though =o\
