I'm new here, so I hope that this is the right place to post this. I searched the forums, hopefully I did it right but I didn't find anything.
Anyway, I have a 1997 Sunfire and my friend has a 2004 (Might be 2003) Cavalier. I have a JVC KD-G300. I am going to put it into his car. Will the wire harness and mounting kit work on his car or does he need a new one if I wish to install it? My car came from the factory with a tape deck, while his came with a CD player.
Also can you point me to any place where I can get information on how to remove the trim and get to the radio of his car. After that I should be fine as I have put in radios before. The only reason I'm asking if it will fit in his car is because I'm going to travel about 150 miles to put it in for him and I really don't want to be wrong
Thank you,
Marc
I'm reading stuff about Radio Data System or RDS and losing the chimes. I think that his car is a lower model, no sunroof, not automatic doors or windows. So will this cause problems with switching to aftermarket? Will this require me to buy a new adaptor?
Info about the radio is in the sticky
here
You should be able to put the JVC radio in with out any problem.

go with the METRA 40-GM21
GM BARBLESS RADIO TO AFTERMARKET ANTENNA
Also.. check out http://www.teamforwardmotion.com/tfmtech/j-body/audio/dash_removal.htm for the dash removal process. Once you're all the way thru, you'll have access to the stock deck.
You can get the GM harness if he doesn't want to loose his chimes but it's about 60-80 dollars. I belive you can just use the correct hardness and attenna adapter and it should work fine.
Thanks! That's a lot to remove to just put in a radio, much easier on my Bonneville, lol! But does not bother me.
Do you think that the wire harness that works for the 97 will work for the 04? If I try it out (unplug the battery and plug this in) will it hurt the system if it is the wrong thing? My friend does not care about the loss of the chimes.
