03 Sunfire: Installing rear speakers
Monday, November 20, 2006 10:27 AM
Both of my rear speakers have gone in my 03 Sunfire and since I want to keep my car stock I am replacing them with new ones from the dealership which are only around 25 dollars each. I was wondering if it is easy enough to install them myself considering I have no experience with installing car audio or if I should go to a car audio shop to have them installed.

Drew:
Check this link for a write up I did on removing the rear package tray. (The carpeted area above the speakers.) It's for a 2-door. You can easily replace the speakers once that's out of the way.

Thanks for the feedback and advice. So once the rear seats are folded down I have to take out the 2 small clips which won't seem to come out. I only tried using my finger nails to pull them out but they won’t and now I'm afraid that there going to crack. Is there a special way to remove the clips like pushing them out?

They do make a special tool to pop those out, it's like 5 bucks. You could also wrap a rag around a set of pliers and gently pull them out as well.

There's 4 screws per speaker, and you have to get them from the top. Don't give people bad information.

I installed the speakers this morning with no problems. Before I put them in I turned on the radio one last time with the old speakers in to see if they would work again and odly enough they did. I installed the new ones anywas because I was getting angry that they kept working then not working. So far the new ones are working fine but im wondering if If it's the speaker or a connection. I guess I will fine out over the next few days while im out cruizing.

Madison - the speakers are supposed to sit on that thing with the tab that pops out You put the new speakers in that which each are held in by 4 screws

Is it possible for speakers to work one day and not the next? I thought if they were blown thats it they wont work anymore. Thats what im confused about. I can only hope that now sense Iv'e installed the new ones that the problem was the old speakers and not the wiring.
