Not the norm big 3 Q
Sunday, November 19, 2006 9:19 PM
Ok I am wondering how much wire I need to do a big 3 but to follow the stick wiring and jsut wire loom and zip tie it in place where it should run. I don't like how when people do this they have it hanging all over in places where it will get crushed in a minor fender bender. So how much wire what size and exactly what ends will I need to make it look somewhat stock and connect to all the stock locations. I would love to just go out look at ti and do it myself but I don't have the time, space or tools right now to do that. Navy working nights working pretty much 12 hours a day every day kinda put a damper on working on the car. Just gotta love down time at work so I can post

BTW the problems that I am having that im thinking will be helped by doing this is horrible dimming. Ever since I got home form overseas my car has been acting up. I got a yellow top batt hopeing that my killing batts every few months would stop. Well it stopped but now when I park he car and try to bump my system it cuts the radio out dims all power and even when i rev to the rev limiter it still cuts out the radio. If i am driving no problem everything is fine. So I am thinking the under drive pulley and the smaller alt pulley are finally taking there toll. SO I gotta fix this asap heh. Big3 is first then higher amp alt but no clue where to get one or how big to get it. I would also like a higher amp starter please don't suggest jbp.com never heard anything good about them.

I dont know anything about The Big 3 question but as for as the alternator;

The stock alternator on my car puts out 105amps (96 cav 2.2L). I was looking at a high amp for my car a while back and I think it had like 170amps or somethin. Just search on google for something like "1996 cavalier high amp alternator" and see what you get.

What subs do you have, and what coil configuration? Reason I ask is you have an 801d, which is 2 ohm stable. As for wire, 10 foot of 4 gauge will do you justice, and you're going to want crimp terminal ends like so:

Oh lord i dunno the exact subs i think they are audiobahn 12awt something or other. They are 450 or 500 rms. Well the amp is setup up so that there is 2 sets of outs left adn right channel its auto bridges it i guess but i jsut have one sub hooked to the left and one to the right channel. Im not a big wireing guy so all the help you guys can give would be great heh.

if i was you i'd go back to the stock pulley. a bigger pulley is going to take more effort to spin it (as far as ive been told) so going with a bigger alternator with a smaller pulley will problably net you the same as going with the stock pulley on your stock alternator. i'd also just go t an autoparts store like autozone an have your alt load tested (most do it for free) to make sure that it is running fine. ive had a bad alt before that was working but only putting out half of what it should have do to a bad rectefirer or something of the sort. also i know you say your busy but you could take a piece of string out and measure your stock wiring route in about 5 minutes time.
