What brand of auto-start does everyone have/recommend?
I'm thinking about getting one for the winter and I was checking out a Viper, Compustart, Polar, among others.

I like Viper and Compustart. However I have been using CrimeStopper brand. They are expensive, but no more than Viper and i have had the best luck with them. Ill never buy another alarm or remote start.

we do autopage and ungo at work. both pretty stait forward if you know what your doing.

It never ceases to amaze me how some people are seen as gurus here, the average remote start takes us 4 hours "if done properly" and I have done between 650-700 Vipers. I fix almost as much stuff from other shops as I install because of shortcuts.

The trick is find a shop who offers:
1. a full lifetime warranty on parts AND labor
2. who solders ALLLLLL connections.
If they give you an excuse why any of this is unecessary, do not trust them to work on your car. I have argued this with some of the hacks on this site many times.....

4 hours, good times man ! . Takes me around 4 to 8 depnding on the extra aux features.

Yeah, I will be getting them to include my power doors, interior light, etc. and whatever brand I go with will be two way, and probably the longest range I can get (1 mile)
Although so far it hasn't even reached -10C here yet, so maybe I'll wait a little.
The one place I went to tried to sell me on an extended warrenty (sp?) and I almost laughed at them.

It took the guys that put my alarm in a good 8 hours or so, and it was done very nicely.
Avital A4400 auto page alarm. I absolutely LOVE it. The remote start doesn't do me much good, but that's not why I bought it either. I bought it just for the pager. About $500 but worth it.

Phil - for our cars, imo it's simple for remote starts, i've done a bunch of them. I do solder and tape all connections, and i've had zero problems with any of my installs. If it's just a simple remote start with a standalone button, an hour or two is all it takes for our cars. Now when you get into other stuff such as alarm with it, or if i'm adding keyless entry into it, of course it'll take a little longer.

The DEI products tend to be a little more involved than other systems.

I use Omega products, maybe 10 wires at most for a remote start, and the bypasses are easy. I wouldn't bs you bro
