Is it possible to switch a 96 sunfire interior wiring harness with a 2004 cavalier interior wiring harness. The reason I am doing this is because I want power locks and windows and I couldnt find a sunfire in the junk yard that had both.
The interior harness has lots on it... including all the rear lights and so on... you'll probably want to stick with something a little closer in year, as well as being the same type of car... since there are lights in different places on a Cavalier, compared to a Sunfire. eg. license plate, bumper lights, etc...
There are differences between the 95-99 harnesses and 00-05 harness that will make swapping a pain... notably the changes between convenience centre (95-99) and BCM (00-05). The trunk light is wired slightly differently and is a pain to switch. 00+ has a diode hidden in the tape around the harness. It's right by the big black connector (C102 I believe).
I noticed that the pins in the main connector are removable. If I were to undo the bundle of wires in the 01 Cav harness and pull out the wires I need, will I then be able to add them to my existing harness?
Yup... sure can! I've done it a number of times. In fact, the harness in my 2000 'vert is made from a 01 Sunfire coupe w/ 99 Cavalier convertible spliced into it.
