More questions and im confused
Thursday, November 02, 2006 10:49 AM
Okay well I know everything I need but my problem is I am stumped on how to have the box fit perfectly in the trunk/seat opening so now air leaks. It would have to be such an odd shape because of those supports and stuff. Now If I put it behind a little so I didnt have to worry about the supports im still confused on how to seal it the right way. Second im gonna be using external 4in aeroports and based on what i have so far the box will be 36L, 15.5H, 17D, for a internal volume of 4.33 before sub displacement. Now using external aeros it says i have to have a port length of 1.3 INCHES to tuned it to 43hz. Is that correct? Seems awefully small for some of fart boxes ive seen before.

just cut a piece of mdf to match the opening. use filler around the edges if nessicary so it fits tight.

By filler do you mean body filler? I think I would use some sort of caulk rather than body filler.

body filler. use caulk and you have now glued the piece in. use filler. fill the holes. smooth it out, paint it and now your piece fits like a glove and can come out when you need it.

Well heres what i came up with(havent done it yet). Cutting a piece of mdf to match the opening right behind the metal supports and using that as my second baffle. So i would get that piece, mount it and seal it in the car, then slide my box in through the trunk with no subs or ports on yet and put titebond on the back of my double baffle and fit them together and use clamps to hold it in place the screw the baffles together. Use woodfiller to get rid of the screw holes and possibly paint it black. Then put the subs and port on and ta da.

that would work. on all my sub boxes ive done ive made the box and then just made the press on trim rings to clean up the look.
