EDI 6500 COMPs

Well I got the EDI 6500's to replace my Polk Momo 6.5 up Front. And well here we go!!

First off the EDI are "wider" than the momos. I wish I could show what I mean but while the mounting point is 6.5 the EDI actually take up more space on the X,Y axis.

That is no problem though its maybe a half inch or so at most. But here is the best part.

On the Z axis they are about 1-1.5 inches shorter, so it makes them really easy to install. To get my momo's to fit I had to hack up my door and cut out alot more space. BUt that would not be necessary with the EDI.

So now that size is done I will Go Onto the Next Part.

The mounting for the speakers was um confusing for about 10 minutes. On the momo's you screw in the mounting bracket, then screw the speaker to the mounting bracket, then you screw the cover plate to the speaker.

With EDI the mounting bracket and the speaker cover are one piece. SO basically you POP to the cover off the bracket.

Its actually pretty cool, only problem is when bass hits my covers pop off. Oh well im sure some elmers glue or something will hold them in, and still allow me to pop them out for changes.

Same thing with the crossover, the cover pops off when you squeeze it or some crap, but it looks nice, alot better than the momo cross over.

The adjustment on the crossover is for -3, 0 +3.

So now for the all important sound quality.

These things are very very good.

Definatly a major upgrade from my polk momo's.

If you want an example of the upgrade, here is what me and a few friend did becuase we thought it was placebo.

We took the stock cavalier speakers, and wired them back up. Then we gritted our teeth through a mix we made to cover almost all spectrum's

Dave Brubeck-Take Five
Therion-Mega Therion
Dark Tranquility-Lost To Apathy
Eminem-Bitch Please II
Kasbain-Club Foot
Arch Enemy-Symphony Of Destruction
The Crown-Under The Whip

We felt that was a fair spectrum test, and we threw in a few rap, just to test bass (though symphony did a great job).

Now after we got that to be neutral in our ears, we wired up the momo's and pretty much agreed it was a +7 improvemnt on a scale from 1-10.

Then we took the momo's ratings at a neutral 0.

Then we put the EDI's in and gave it a +6 rating over the MOMO's.

There were people there with alpine and JL Comps and they all said the EDI was better than there by a little bit, but nothing major.

Well major enough for a few of them to want to buy EDI, and switch.

The mid bass is pretty excellent for metal. Infact I would say the best I have heard, better than my home audio Klipsh system.

The tweeters are excellent as well. Defiantly leapes and abounds over the polk momos, but when there is alot of "noise" in the high spectrum it tends to get a little confused and muddle the high notes. While pretty much EVERY comp speakers that cost less than 400 dollars do that. The EDI DO DO IT, but ALOT LESS THAN MOST COMPS.

So other than that. BUT THIS PRODUCT. It really is superb. As a music whore, these really are a dream come true, and I think with alot, alot and alot of tuning I can clean up the tweeter sounds.

Now onto the buiness itself.

Packaging was nice and done, and had Element Designs stamped on the box. Nothing was nearly as flashy as the polk momo's but I would rather have better speakers than the flashier boxes.

My only complaint with the "packaging" perse, is they dont give you any mounting hardware. And nothing sucks more than trying to mount everything and realizing there are not any screws or whatnot.

That didnt really bother me though as I have about 200 drywall screws floating throughout my car, which I used, but to others that could suck.

But then again no deal breaker.

Alex was actually very helpful. He answers every question fast and really knew what he was talking about. Seriously buy from alex, he treats you well. He pretty much held my hand through this (the install came at basically the wrong time, and my brain was completly fried and did stuff wrong becuase I was excited and tired, and pissed off).

Seriously, buy from alex, any questions you have ask.
