Ok so since ive tried to install my stuff ive had nothing but the worst luck(seriously anything that could go wrong has). Now i have everything installed, had it working, then it stopped suddenly overnight. Checked my wires, fuses, etc and my 12v ignition wasnt putting out power so I messed with some stuff and finally realized under the hood the ignition fuse was blown so i replaced that and did some tinkering and wala it worked....1 time. Now im back to not having it work and so i figured something was wrong with the stock wiring so I wired it to the fuse box and tried it today and it smoked for some reason so I undid everything and realized that fuse holder isnt putting out power anymore. Now i went to try it on the ac one(no ac in my car for some reason) and i was getting power through the 12v ign. but now not through the constant(yellow wire) and i am at witts end. Ive spent all this time to be so close its just with the ****in headunit im having problems. I have tried two headunits and neither turn on and both fuses are good. Im about to just sell my @!#$ unless I can get it to work soon.
I'm not a car audio expert or anything but I have installed a few systems in my time. The only thing I can really say without being there to look for myself it make sure all of your wires are connected securly, then if nothing is still working I would run all new wires if you are not already. I would just run new wires to the direct power source instead of using the stock wires for the stock stereo. To tell the truth I think I had the same problem as you once and it turned out to be my ground wire. Make sure you have a very very good ground. Make sure it is not touching anything but metal and make sure that metal is touching nothing but metal, plastic and rub cannot touch your ground at any point. It just wont turn on at all. Sounds like you get some kind of ground but it is not good enough and it blows. The smoking problem could be from not having a ground but to much power getting to it. Make sure you ground is actually grounded and not connected to something that is live with electricity. I'm not saying your new at this but just make sure accidents do happen we have all gone through this.
In the planning stage for an all American TRD Cavalier.
Nah man im new this is my first install. My ground is still that stock so tomorrow I will rip it out and run new wire to another place on the chasis.

not trying to be a huge dick here but i think the only thing wrong with the wiring is you. did you do the hack and splice method or did you get a harness?
what year and model are you destroying?

lol
dont you love this stuff??
The sure fire way to solve wiring problems is to trace every wire (+12, +12switched, GND) to where it ends. Use a multimeter, you do have a multimeter dont you?

remember kids, multimeters are in no way related to kilometers
I am so confused---what exactly are you trying to install, where are you getting your wires from and what kind of car is it? What wires are you trying to get?
And obviously you didn't wire everything and didn't check everything otherwise it would have worked. The ignition fuse has never blown on my car, 97 cavalier, and I have a few things I put in myself.
