4 Channel Amp Question: Watts vs. Speaker Max Load
Wednesday, September 27, 2006 12:45 PM
I want to set my car up with 4 Infinity Reference 6010cs-es. The info on Crutchfield.com says:

"power range: 2-90 watts RMS (270 watts peak power)"

Does this mean I can safely power each speaker with 70-80 watts each? I'm assuming so, and that a 300W 4 Channel Amp would be what would be perfect. If I could, I'd like to get a 350-400W amp, but if 300W would be fine, then that's what I'd like to go with.

Just a note: I'm not looking for competition-winning speakers or sound, just better than average.

if you're looking to get the most out of your speakers try find an amp that puts out like...80-90watts RMS per channel...max rating's should be taken lightly

something like that i'd try and look for an amp around 75-150 watts per channel. infinity makes a good product and as long as your sending it a clean signal it should handle over 90 watts without any issues. an extra power will give you more headroom.

I'm looking at two amps:

The Audiobahn A6004V and the Alpine MRP-F450.

Anyone have any experience with either? The difference in price is $20 online.

audiobahn will clip and sound like poo. Plus I have noticed a kinda digital distortion in their amps... hard to explain and might not even be noticeable on those infinities. But it's there which show's poor manufacturing anyways, so steer clear. Alpine makes real solid amps, beautiful sounding as well.

I have a Alpine MRP-F450, I love it. I paid $300 for it from a local audio shop. As long as you have all the connections good it is a great solid amp to go with.

id suggest more power but if you want either of those two i'd go with the alpine over the audiobahn.
