Hey All. I had a quick question for you, I am looking into getting a car alarm down the road, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me some popular and trusted brand names. I live in a low-crime area however I go to school in a rough part of the city and I have lots of stuff (GPS, Radar, Head-Unit, iPod, etc) when I go to school. Usually I park in the lot, but when that's full (and it almost always is) I have to park on back-streets and what not.
I am looking for one with an LCD keypad and 2-way communication. I guess some come with remote starters as well, and I was wondering how those are. Just for the record, I have manual windows \ locks and I'm not sure how this would affect the alarm sensor set-up. If someone could shed some light on this for me I would appreciate it. Thanks!

I have a autopage RF 520LCD it has 6 built in relays , which made it really easy to install. however it doesnt have remote start. This is the only aftermarket alarm i ever had and i love it. Also great range.

just curious when you install them your self what do the sensors look like and how are they attach? i have always wondered.
The only real sensors there are, are the ones for like vibration. Those are just likwe a little box with wires coming out of them.
The ones for the door are just wires that hook to your stock door sensor. You don't have to install any sensors for the doors. They use the stock ones.

Hey There. Again, will it matter if my windows \ doors are not powered? (Stupid question I know)
it shouldnt matter. If the kit you're buying has Keyless Entry, its no biggie at all. Just search eBay for ALARM ONLY and it should filter out all RKE systems.

'07 Chevy Impala SS
all alarms have keyless entry. buy actuators.
I have the 791 from Viper. Um...if you wanted to add RKE you can, you would just need actuators and wire them properly/accordingly. It doesn't matter if you have power or manual windows/locks. Also, you will need a bypass module for the remote start if you are interested in that.
As for the sensor, it comes w. a shock sensor to pick up if someone physically hits your car. Most will detect if glass breaks (or the shock from it) but there are glass sensors, as well as digital tilt sensors to detect if the car is being picked up (to steal rims, for example).
The 791 has a top range of 1/4 mile. So....if you park too far you might not even know if someone touched your car. It is always best to mount the antenna as high on the windshield as possible. I mounted mine above the rear-view mirror and I can barely see it.
Let me know if you have any more questions, contact info in profile.

Ban low-performance cars, not high-performance ones.

I dont think you can put an auto start in a manual??? Someone correct me if im wrong. (like I need to ask)
Ya, you can, you just have to rig some other stuff up. Dont ask me to remember all that you have to do though.

Autopage makes one or two that are manual-safe (if hooked up correctly, of course). They work by seeing a ground when you car is in neutral, or something to that effect. I haven't hooked one up yet.

Dont forget to get that pesky "Passlock" module, that bypasses the security features in the Stock Radio..
It was about 50 bucks... but Im SURE you can find a cheaper one..
My security system was installed by a "professional" (and I use that as a generous statement)
best thing to do, I would say, is unless you have a very good understanding of the stock electrical system in the
j-body, take it to a GM DEALER before attempting to do it yourself..
trust me..
I gave my car to the dealer, after the alarm I had installed started to act out of character, and the tech told me he wanted to know
the name of the shop that I got it installed in, so he could put it on the shops "gripe list".
I gave him my name.. and he shook his head at me.,.
Basically he had to rip out the system, restore the car to stock, then start all over again.. and I havent had a problem since..
