Lately when I turn the volume up on the system the bass cuts out, not completely out but it cut the bass volume in half. The amps do not shut down nor are they hot. The subs are not blown, where do I start checking?
the gain has always been at normal, been that way for 6 months. No problem till lately.
maybe someones playing with a phase control? subs get about 1/2 as loud when one sub is out of phase, causing wave cancellation... however with a mono amp I dont see how that would be possible if it does it suddenly while driving.
another possibilty is maybe insufficient power, is anything dimming during song playing? if your alt isnt strong enough for the amp the battery will begin to drain and you will see maybe minor dimming.
Or maybe there's a single strand of stray wire on the speaker outputs on the amp?
Bad RCA's, interference, HU settings, etc... could be a number of things.
The 3 I mentioned in detail have happened to me before, hence why I listed them.
good info I'll check into that....I have noticed my instrument cluster dimming a bit lately. Just as a reminder everything was working fine up until a few days ago when I turned it up and bass output dropped, when I lower the volume the bass comes back.

What do you mean the gain is normal? What is it set at? You could have been damaging your subs for a long time and now they gave up.
I never adjusted the gain since I installed the amps. And the subs arent blown cuz I put then In my frens car and they work.
sounds like a voltage issue or bad/loose connections.
check all your connection points including the connections in the sub box (loose spade terminals at the sub
could do that)

I had the same problem with my mono am and sub. Check your pre outs on the amp, mine came a tad loose after hitting bumps im assuming. Make sure those are in all the way, it fixed mine.
update...check all connections and tightened up the loose ones. The preouts are good, but I still have the same prob. The alternator is stock and I've added a yellow top a month or so ago.
Hmm...Dont know what to tell you then. Im no audio guru, so im sure someone on the ORG can help you out better than me. It fixed mine, and sounded like the same problem. Hope you get it figured out.
OK now when i come to a stop light the car comes close to shutting off, it stumbles a bit then revs even out.

Try getting a new battery. After years your battery loses its voltage. When your battery is not putting the correct amount of voltage your car is going to idle like @!#$ and your subs are going to clip or *turn off* when turned up to high volumes. Your asking your amp to put out power that it doesnt have so its going to clip. Try a new battery because I had the same exact problems, put a new battery in and bam car runs great i can crank the radio up and no clipping since. Now if your car new battery goes dead then its time to get a new alternator.
