hey i am looking into getting subs and what not i would like to know the main places to put down sound deadening stuff i know the doors trunk lid and thats all i can think of. I want to stop as many rattles and what not plz let me know any of the spots i need to do
El fuego is an idiot. After the doors and truck are done. You could pull the seats out to get the carpeting up and sound deaden that, along with pulling out the head liner and deaden that as well. As far as everywhere, that is stupid. You just want to cover anything that has any tuype of hole in it, like your door for example, where the speaker is mounted on the door, that area you would want to deaden that. By the way no one like El fago here, just incase if you had not noticed.
GIT 'ER DONE!
El isn't an idiot in this instance, but I'll add a little to what he said.
If you have enough money - Everywhere
Another good place is in the tire well,,and behind the license plate. The best way to figure it out is temporarily put your subs in and turn it up. Then walk around your vehicle and listen for vibes..
ok thanks for the help so far guys what brands should i use i dont have all that much money so i may be cheap on some things
for sound deadening(sp?) i like dynomat (kinda pricey) or brown bread, a lil cheaper....ive also heard ice and water shield works....but i personally havent tried it, or been in a vehicle with it
el fuego was being sarcastic in a sense, cavaliers and sunfires suck balls for ratteling, they rattle EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!sound deaden anywhere you can.
double post*, Just to give you an idea, I have seen cars where people just deadend the trunk and doors and have gained 3db from doing so.
Hey Madison, what I do is I buy the rubber undercoating from any automotive place or walmart and spray it on.
It helps with hard to get areas or shapely areas. Its cheaper and doesn't weigh as much as dynomat or whichever.
Just don't get it everywhere..Hope this helps a little.
The general consensus around here has been that Fatmat is the way to go. you can get it off of ebay in a 100SqFt roll for 110 i think. then others have used something out of lowes that they use for an ice shield as mentioned above.

Your an idiot.
All materials have its own resonance. Depending on the material and its thickness And where it is depends if you will actaully hear a "rattle" or not. Your door skins "rattle", but there are no holes there. Your trunk floor and rear quater panals "rattle" and warp, and there are no holes there. Sound deadening does not muffle the sound itself, it stiffens the material so it will resonate at a different rate. So you will eliminate the rattles until you use something stronger or louder as opposed to power.
So in another words, You want to Sound deaden everywhere, that you can, for best results.
As for undercoating, line X and rhinolining work quite well, but is cost prohibitive for most people.
Also look for Foam sealing your panals. That works best, and only costs about $300. also it stiffens the chassis, which we all know is a good thing.
And for all those not sure what im talking about, look here:
