factory amp delete???
Tuesday, July 25, 2006 10:30 PM
i have a 2005 cavalier LS sport with the premium amplified audio in it. i want to replace the 6X9's but need to use the factory head unit due to where i work ( stuff goes "missing" every day). is there an easy way to bypass the amp? or even better does anyone make speakers that work with the factory amp? im thinking probably not but that would be the best option.

any input would be great.
thanks guys

because it splits the signal up into highs and lows so you have two sets of wires going to each speaker...i dont know about how to bypass it tho

Well the thing im wondering is, do just normal speakers with the normal signal plug into the amp and then just get split into the highs and lows, or is there a different system altogether .. sort of like RCAS that plug into the amp, and then the signal is amplified and split into highs and lows and sent to the speakers. Because i think ive read when installing an aftermarket deck you have to run your own wires to the rear speakers if you want to power them off of a deck, im not 100% sure on this, but i think ive read that... I'm not sure tho thats why im not saying anything for sure, but i guess you could check into that SUPERFASSSSTZ...or hopefully someone whos worked on the premium sound system comes on soon

There's 4 signal wires that go from the stock deck to the amp (in the trunk, driver's side behind the carpet), then it's split and amplified..

Disconnect the plug from the factory amp... then tap the 4 signal wires at the plug... (look in the FAQ for the wire colors) then run those four wires to your new 6x9s.
