What box to run 2 type r's

What should I do slot port wise for my 2 type r's. They're swr-1242D's. I want some more bump out of them and not use more than half of the trunk. Tell me what will work and fit and what you all think.

What is the min required airspace? What freq do you want it tuned too?

Thats what I was looking for. I was thinkin somewhere around 3 cubes @ 35hz. would be good for it. Alpine is saying 1.7 per sub @ 30 hz.

mid 30's is generaly a very very safe place to tune to... are you building it yourself? if u plan on having one built, figure out how much room, upwards, side to side, and depth wise you are able to lose in your trunk, and e mail JD at soundsthatpound.com and tell him what kinda subs you will be running, you wont find higher quality custom built boxes for a better price or better customer service anywhere

On the other hand....you have other fingers.

oh yeah and Lash's post reminded me to mention this as well, you can find box calculators like WinISD and figure the depth, height, width, size each piece of wood needs to be, port length for the tuning frequency you want and what not.. just remember, when Lash says NET thats AFTER driver displacement, and proper airspace is critical in ported box designs... refer to my origional post if you want someone else to build the box.. and i think JD will even do it in DIY form where he can make calculations, cut and drill and lable all the wood, send it to you, you assemble and carpet/paint/whatever it yourself... cheaper than custom built, cost a lil more than doing it all yourself...

That is way to big. I'm workin with a area of 34"Wx14.5"Hx18"D. Could I make anything decent sounding out of that?

Any smaller than the first one and youre better off going sealed.

I have a sealed box right now. outside dimensions are 28"Wx14"Dx14"T. It's made out of 3/4" MDF and is divided in the center with 3/4" MDF. It hits pretty good in that. I just wanted to make it a lil louder.

have you e mailed JD with your available space, and what kind of subs you are using? i still say get his input on it. 2 type Rs ported in a cav trunk shouldnt be out of your space requirements

Nah not yet. I'll get in contact with him. I was lookin at the post above and the 1st box seems like it should work out alright as long as I can get it in and out with ease in the case of a flat tire or something. A lil more space than I'd like to use but I can handle that. Also thinkin about a new car within the next couple months now so I'll have to see what will work with that to. thinkin about a 04-05 WRX Sedan.
