Building my own box
Monday, July 03, 2006 12:46 PM
Ok so I can't find anything I like so I'm gonna build my own. I know how big it needs to be and how much port space is needed thats not an issue, but I'd like to know what material would be the best for building it ?
I'm also planning a plexi-glass front with a mirrored interior, has anyone done anything similer that you guys know of ? I figure if I'm gonna do it I may as well make it awesome looking right ?

I've seen at Lowes in 4 x 8 sheets, so i'm pretty sure Home Depot will have it.

each place should be able to cut them into the size of panels you need as well. I do it all the time and take the left-over bits as well. way easier to fit in the car that way.

dont forget yur gonna need at a minimum 1/2 plexi but i recomend 5/8 or 3/4. The stuff lowes and home depot carry is gonna be thing and is gonna flex really bad and eventually blow out.

x2...thats what I use most of the time (unless I need bigger) it much easier to cut down than a full sheet.

yea, trying to manuever a 4x8 sheet by yourself is a hell of a task, lol.

Most of the boxes i build for people, i usually try to keep the width to 24" so i can use the handy panel, lol

So then the 1/4 inch plexi-glass is never gonna cut it. Now I'm not running a ton of power here so do you guys still think the 1/2 inch is ness. ?

1/4" plexi is NOT thick enough.

The larger your window, the thicker it needs to be.

Great prices on 3/4" plexi. They will even custom cut it as needed. Check it out. I would highly recomend useing 3/4" so youll never have to worry about it.
