I'm looking at getting a set of comps for my car, i currently have polk DB525s up front but one of them blew. I was thinking of getting a pair of eD 6000s comps which are 6.5" but i already have 5.25" adapters in my doors. I was also looking at some alpine type R 5.25" comps. Just wondering if i'm going to notice a huge difference in midbass between a 5.25" driver and a 6.5"? also, would you guys recommend a different type of comps? I'm trying to keep the price around 150. Thanks for any input.
go with 6.5's. I definitely notice major differences between midbass output from 5.25 to 6.5, but if you don't have your doors deadened properly then it won't really matter which one you go with.
i love my infinity reference 6.5s...i think i paid 115 or something on sale.
GO PATS!!!
I paid $80 for my 6.5" infinity's, and i love um. I got them cheap at BotB.
Also Matty0500, the stock speakers are 4x6". so if your gonna go round, i hope you know how to make up the adaptor plates.
Yeah i already have the adapters in there for the 5.25s i have in there now. Just a quick question about that though. I used pretty thin particle board, like maybe 1/4" because i wasn't sure if there would be enough clearance for the speaker when i put the door panel back on. I've heard people say that you should make them out of 3/4" MDF. Is there enough room in there for that? should i redo them because they are a little flimsy? Thanks for all your guys help.
My 6.5" CDT's have a 3/4" MDF though I think I should have went with 5/8" lol.. they don't hit the grill but they come real close.
I have 3/4" MDF, and it fits fine.
3/4" MDF, I used the trim rings around the speaker just to make sure the surrounds didn't hit the door, plenty of space.
Just remember that sound quality is proportional to speaker size. Bigger speaker (up to a certain point) means better SQ.
not necesarily Brad, but going with 6.5 inch 2 way comps will be much better sounding in the midbass/mid range definately... just make (or have some made), 3/4 MDF mounting rings...and as for 150 $ comps that will sound GREAT for the price (just about unbeatable sound for the price), get some CDT CL61 comps, woofersetc.com (authorized CDT dealer), has a great deal on them too!!
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

I just bought a 20 inch widescreen ultrasharp flat pannel..I'm going to have to subscribe to the high quality porn places now......damn
I have 5.25 Rockford Dual tweet fanatic p's and I love 'em..........Now I need an amp for 'em and the back.......there I have kenwood 4-way 6x9s......
as was already said, the 6000s should have more output and more lower-end extension due to the increase in cone area.
The 6000s are actually being upgraded right now, and the only components we have left are the 6500s, which we lowered to $185 at one point they where $350.
When looking into a component set, ide recommend to try and find a 1" silk dome tweeter over a metal domed, the silk are usually smoother sounding and more accurate in terms of SQ.
Hope this helps a little.
