Just a warning for anyone looking to purchase this line of product. Twice within the past week (once in a 4 door Cavalier), I was asked to install complete WalMart Sony Xplode stereo systems for graduation gifts. This stuff is a total waste of money. The amps put out no power even though rated on the box at 600 watts peak, the cd players overpowered the amps in both cases. The spec sheet claims 110 watts per channel at 4 ohms, which in my opinion is severely inflated. The subs sound FAR WORSE than expected, a set of 6 1/2" Fosgates have better sound, handle more power, and have more thump. 4x6's and 6x9's are simply cheap stock replacements, they do not sound any better than your stock speakers, only buy these if you are replacing a blown set. You are better off buying Jensen, Lightning Audio, or Pioneer if this is your budget.

i got a sony headunit. its pretty nice.

Lightening audio sucks too, esp the lower class al walmarts sell. I tried them once, never again.
I have had 2 sony amps a 760 2 channel. did great for my 2 12" alpine type e's. Also had a pentagon one of the 1600W class D amps. rated at 900RMS @ 2ohm. deff put out what it said. headunits have been hit or miss. my friend has sony speakers in his zx2 and has had no problems with them. they sound fairly decent. Just watch what is bought and where you buy it from. I stay away from walmart audio personally.

Let me rephrase: Don't buy low end WALMART Sony Xplode products. I have no experience with mid or higher level Xplode stuff.

Sony has a high end of audio?
a buddy of mine runs 4 sony Xplod subs (custom box replaced the back seat), running those is an MA Audio 1200 watt 2-channel amp, a schosche 550w 2-channel amp, and running those is an old alpine CD player.
Honest to god, those subs arent too bad. for the price, jensen is better. He sat beside my camry in the sarcan parking lot, he had his window down. It's so much louder and better INSIDE the car... but outside, when its cranked you cant feel it... you can hear it, but not FEEL it. the guy spent upwards of $450 CAD on them (walmart 12" sony sub). My cheap ass system cost me a grand total of $350 from the deck to the amp to the subs (jensen deck, Directed X-treme amp, 800w, and a rockbox sub box and subs), I can FEEL my car thump all the way down the street (at work, I was actually asked to go turn it down cuz my gf was listening to it)... so... no contest. my entire system cost less than his 4 subs and was still louder. a 1 hour ride to regina and we'd be deaf for about 15 minutes.
Now my subs are blown (bad ground on amp, took both amp and subs out) sold the box and one sub that still ran (barely) to a buddy for $20, HIS buddy put a pair of rockfords in the box and blows out his rear windshield.
The moral of this story: 2 good subs > 4 bad subs
Yeah, Wal-mart audio... I got an ILO CA-3000v for Christmas. It's the one with the SD-Card slot and the neat display... only, I'm halfway tempted to figure out some way to hack the firmware in this thing to improve the situation. The CD player sucks, the dial sucks to use, the MP3 player is wonky, you can't add videos to the unit itself, the audio is fairly low, and there's no sub-out.
Still better than Sony Xplode, though.

wow.... this story right here gives me a brilliant idea!
you and your friend should go out and spend every penny you have left and buy handguns then have a contest... who can shoot the other one in the face first.... then the winner should jump off a bridge

i'm running 2 Alpine Type-s 12" ina qlogic [200$], sealed, in my cavy, of a 1000W wallmart amp, (sony)[149$], and JVC CD player[300$].. and i hit 142.1 DB at Buds Car and Stereo in Danville Illiniose. and in outlaw series i ran 144.3 with my window cracked, on the dash board. the sony amp does exactly what i need it to. im running at 2 ohms, and its CEA-2006 compliant. for the price you cant beat the power. and my head unit takes care of the half ass sound quality, with 6v preamps, and internal crossovers, and serperate EQ and Sub settings

My Pioneer setup isnt bad.... Wasnt much cheaper than the other brands out there. I agree on Sony, their headunits are the best thing that they make for car audio, with the rest sucking. As for Jensen, i used to use them, not bad products, and had a friend who had a set of their 12's pretty good subs too.
i want my keyboard to have a hotkey to just post this line in whatever forum i have opened at the time, just to save me from typing it all the damn time,....

People must think we are joking.......If they heard a real sound quality car they wouldn't believe their ears. I have never opened a magazine and seen Xplode anything in a car, there is a reason for that. It's kind of like driving a Chevette all your life and thinking it is pretty good, then one night getting to ride a 1/4 mile in a fully souped '71 GTO.

I live in moose jaw, so not many people have quality systems here. those with kicker subs have crap for a HU or a really cheap amp, others have crap for a system altogether. Best system I've heard here was all kenwood, and thats because there's an audio shop right next door to me.
You're not that far from Regina, which I know for a FACT has shops that sell better stuff than Sony, Kenwood and Kicker. You said it yourself that it's only an hour away - well worth the drive to shop for something quality.
