sup help

Ok i'm not sure what the best way to hook this up would be.

I have a 10inch JL audio sub. on the back it says W3, 10W3-D4 Dual voive coil subwoofer.

I also have a 550 watt amp. its from walmart(i know its cheap but i don't have much cash). the name on it is scosche, i found the specs on it here on line

# 2-channel power amplifier, 550 watts max peak power
# Low impedence 2 Ohm load capability (in stereo)
# Bridgeable to mono
# Multi-mode capability
# Selectable high pass and low pass electronic crossover
# Selectable bass boost
# Low voltage warning LED
# Overload warning LED
# Line level and speaker level inputs
# Soft start turn-on and turn-off
# Over heating and short circuit protection
# Adjustable gain control
# MOSFET power switching transistors
# Extruded aluminum heatsink & ABS coverplate

my question is what is the best way to hook them up together. As of right now i just have one of the coils hooked up to the amp, i didn't know if i would get more bass if i hooked it up different.

Well, just hooking up one of your coils (if i'm not mistaken, someone please correct me if i am) could very easily ruin a sub. You should ALWAYS have both coils hooked up. The amp says it's bridgable, so what i would do is hook up the negative terminal on one channel to the negative on one voice coil and the positive terminal from your other channel on you amp to your other voice coil's positive lead. Then, connect the 2 still available terminals (should be one positive and one negative) on your sub together. This should show the amp a 2 ohm load, and i'm assuming the amp is stable at 2 ohms. Again, if anything i said is wrong, someone please correct me.

No, connecting one voice coil will not ruin a DVC sub unless you're massively overpowering the one coil. DVC subs are rated as both coils, not just one. I ran 600 watts into a DVC 1000w sub and had no damage to it.

I'd say in your particular case, (since its scosche it'd probably be 4 ohm stable in mono) connect one voice coil to one channel, and the other voice coil to the other. Same power, different wiring. I wouldnt rely too much on that amp, I've had it before, it runs well, but not very loud. Sold it to a friend of mine for $75 (hehe) and he has yet to blow it. He runs 4 12" sony X-plod subs. I believe it's something like 220 watts RMS so dont rely too much on it like I said. Of course, with a good sub, it could get loud

something doesnt sound right about that, i thought that hooking up only one coil was brutality to the subs...

you want to bump, then they will bump and hit real hard and a lot good.

Alright, I understand now, just I've been hearing about people running one of the coils and someone else is like wtf is wrong with you, you'll blow ur sub....and I could prolly find a post where someone is asking about hooking up an amp to each coil (2 amps, 2 coils) on a dvc sub and a bunch of people are like "no if you dont set everything up exactly the same you will blow ur sub up" and stuff...so i just thought id clarify that

the second coil is to add more power and give more wiring options, really not much more than that. I havent seen any 10's get to 1000 watts (RMS or peak) without a second voice coil. There's probably a few but I havent seen 'em.

coils don't ADD power..they simply allow you more flexiblity.
