I was thinking of adding another blue LED to my dome light circuit to get extra brightness in the car when you unlock it or need to find something at night (blue, while pretty, does not offer the finest light to see by)
THEN, while I was thinking the idea through, I figured HEY, I can extend the 12v source that runs the dome light (or map lights) and run it into the 12v lead that lights the tubes under the car! It would be sweet to have them pop on and then gradually fade when you lock/unlock the car. I'd just have to remember NOT to use the inside lighting while moving!
Anyway, all practicality aside, does this mod seem like it would work? Any chance it would harm any of my accessories?
Thanks!
First, find out how many amps are bein pulled by the under car ones.
I'm thinkin that the gauge of the domelight wire is too small to run ur under car ones but i'm not sure.
Other than that, I don't see why it wouldn't work.

use your dome light wires as a trigger with a relay...thatll work just fine.

Well I'm gonna tap it in at the switch on my D/S door that I use to turn the system on. So the same 12v that normally goes through the switch will be going down the same wire that feeds into the control box, so no issues there.
What I'm worried about is what if the tubes are already on and I also turn the cabin light on for some reason? Would the tubes be receiving 2 separate 12v "hits" and cause a problem? It would already be getting a steady 12v from the usual source and also the "juice" from the dome light tien-in, if that makes any sense...
I've done it.
I use the negative trigger of the dome light to trigger a relay that turns everything on. I got 4 12" cathodes in the car, and my streetglow underbody lights all hooked to it.

Thats what I originally thought too, but he said he wanted it to fade out and with a relay, it would just shut off. Thats the only problem with a relay.

I don't think it would hurt it.

If you have map lights, I just replaced the map light bulbs with blue bulbs. I can still see because the main light is white.
OK how about this (thanks for your help by the way)
I hook it up with NO relay, just a tap-in
Will THIS be dangerous in any way? The current would only be flowing for a few seconds...
Not wanting to pull the headiner out again to stuff a relay up there - its gonna be hard enough to do this with the headliner IN the car! hehe
that would be a cool looking thing
hmmmm.... I am confused, and the Blonde genius that is me,
does not easily get confused
seems like more work than its worth to me...
Now THOSE are Blasphemous words that I am SHOCKED to hear in the JBO Forum.
It's ALWAYS worth the trouble, isn't it? (assuming you did it right and got the result you wanted)
hehe
