Ok i've been searching on different brands of sound deadening and i've found a place called
B-quiet Sound Deadening and they have both a Extreme and Ultimate sound deadening.. I've searched and i've decided after reading other posts its either this stuff or just go for dynamat.. I looked at Fatmat and it didnt seem bad but there were people having problems with it sticking.. i could use a heat gun but i think thats more hassle then needed.. After looking at both brand of the Bquiet stuff i have came that the Ultimate is a better stuff but i just want ur opinions on both of how u think they are..
B-Quiet Extreme
45mil thick, but also is a rubberized asphalt meaning it will have a nasty odor in teh car right?
B-Quiet Ultimate
60mil thick, and is a butyl based adhesive so it should have no odor right?
The main difference in the thickness.. but i also noticed the Ultimate can be used under the hood and has a 300F Temp range.. So out of the 2 the Ultimate would seem to be my choice.. I plan to get prolly 50sq ft for now to try and get my rear speaker cover done so i can reinstall that along with the rear side..
But my main question is.. how does this compare to Dynamat? Is this a more Alternative over Fatmat? I'm not going to go with a crazy system..(maybe a 10" if i feel later on) but i feel sound deadening is a must..
peal and seal for teh win.. Even if you gotta put 2 or 3 layers on. I think they come in a 6in x 40ft. roll for $20.

Rather than start a new thread I might as well just ask you here.
Do you know of a test that you can do, to see how good something is at deadening?
I've found a different kind of cheap alternative, but I don't know how effective it is.
Not really. Just all trial and error and personal preference.
What other alternative have you found? Maybe we can help you.

it's only a few cents cheaper per sq ft then fatmat is on ebay. I would suggest fat mat over peel and seal anyday.

I just called and checked on the peal and seal...
4in x 33ft. (11 sq.ft.) = $8
6in x 33ft. (16.5 sq.ft.)=$12
32in. x 33ft.(88sq.ft.) = $72
They didnt have pricing for the 12" wide rolls.

whats the thickness? and whats its adhesive? butyl or asphalt?
also bradsk.. what are u lookin at for a cheap alternative? care to share?
can i get peel and seal at Home depot? Might think bout buying some and trying it out..

put some in my buddy's car....i honestly though it sucked. by the next weekend you could pull the stuff off easily just like it went on. we heated it up and everything but it didn't like to stick too well. I'm sure after some freeze and thaw cycles it won't hold up.

i've used the brown bread. was decent stuff, probably comparable to fatmat.

OR you could always go out and buy second skin... i think the web site is secondskinaudio.com i might be wrong but either way, second skin is about as good and fairly priced sound deadening you are going to find, and Ant is an awesome guy to deal with. Lash, I have agreed with you on a TON in this forum, but i realy do have to disagree in this thread, i say dont cheap out and go get peel and seal, go with second skin damplifier or damplifier pro if u wantpeel and stick sound deadening, they also got a ton of other kick ass stuff like their spectrum spray or brush on stuff, and spectrum sludge... everything they make is quality, and they got a product for every different kind of deadening job u might wanna do

It smells like tar, but it doesn't contain asphault. I'm sure it's probably a great vibration absorber, but I'm not sure if it's soundproofing properties are legit.
I'd go with the butyl based personally. I've used the asphault based b-quiet, and it was good, but it dripped and peeled away anywhere it was on an incline (of course I live in Florida, so the car temperature can easily get to over 150*.
i agree....we sell tons of edead at elemental designs. we are switching our v1 from ruberized asphalt to butyl based. better deal

For peel and seal...the surface has to be preped VERY well.

says its butyl, and im really liking the specs.. price is cheaper than the Bquiet Ultimate.. So this might be my solution of sound deadening. it weighs .07lbs more each sq ft than the Ultimate.. but its also 5mil thicker..
@!#$er - yeh i dont want the asphalt the teh smell and that i have been told it has a tendency to melt and kinda slim up..making it easily removable or slide down if its vertical.. and dont want to have to mess with that..

and Brad SK.. that stuff doesn't seem to be that bad.. but it is asphalt and even says it has the odor(Read: MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET (PDF)).. so that kinda kills it for me..might not be asphalt but it says it has the odor so im still not fond of that part.. might not bother u but i don't want to have to open my car on a warm or hot day and have to get in and smell asphalt.... also on that same day would hate to start hearing road noise again or sumthing.. then pull interior panels out to find out whats wrong and see that all the sheets have slide off and collected down in the bottom lol.. Maybe u could use a spray adhesive with it to make sure it doesn't come off? but still i think the smell it what bothers me the most.. but im not saying don't try it.. maybe get a small amount and do like ur rear deck cover in a few spots and week or so later see how it held up and if the smell was a big deal or not.. but i think maybe if someone wanted some thing they could do their trunk area in.. that it would be a pretty good alternative.. cuz it wont get as hot as the rest of the interior i wouldnt think.. and if its cheap enough u could also double or even triple it up. Let us know how it works out tho if u try it..

*BE prepared to put TONS of hours into installing this stuff, I sliced my finers 3 times doing my friends prelude.
*Good prep cleaning will ensure a great bond, i cleaned up my trunk with rubbing alcohol, and a bit of nail polish remover, then I cleaned it again with some distilled water.

i'd like to stay away from the asphault stuff as much as possible.. but the RAAMmat BXT and Second Skin Damplifier seems to be good stuff.. RAAM Audio being a lil cheaper cuz its .5 mils thinner also.. but i think it might be my choice.. 50 cents difference can definatly add up.. im planning on getting around 100-150 sq ft.. I have "B-Quiet" and it worked excellent, its a *bitch* to take off so there are NO problems of it coming loose, it just ain't happening.
I have my entire interior done including headliner (but no firewall) and the car is extremely quiet, well worth the cash.
