Re-wiring in the stock stereo.
Saturday, May 13, 2006 5:14 PM
So, I recently got a new car.. switched to a Third Gen Camaro.

I took my head-unit out of the Cavvy, and am trying to wire in the stock stereo.

I am having a few issues though, I cannot get the dome light to work when the ignition is off, it only works when the ignition is on. And, the stereo has memory.. kind of. It only remembers the radio stations. The clock does not have memory, and say if you had the radio playing when you shut the car off, and you go to turn it back on, the radio is shut off, you have to hit power to get it to turn on, but it will remember the radio station that it was on when it shut off.

I desperately need to get all of this fixed, any help is greatly appreciated.

I dont understand what you're trying to do?

if you are wiring an aftermarket cd player into the camaro it sounds like you arent using a correct, "switched" power wire.(yellow)

try your windshield wiper fuse.

It's in a 99 Cav. Just has a tape player, nothing special.

Then, yup.... some of the wires aren't matched up correctly. You're going to have to use a meter or a wiring diagram for the Camaro to find out what is supposed to go where.

It sounds like the gray wire is wrong.... illumination.... but now it's messing with your dome light. Also the yellow constant power wire isn't hooked up right.

I don't understant the part about having to do something to the Camaro. Let my explain myself a little better, sounds like we are both confused.

I had an after market cd player in the Cavvy, I got a new car, and put the aftermarket one in the Camaro, and now I want to put the stock stereo back into the Cavvy.

And yeah, I don't think the illumination is working at all, the stereo doesn't dim when the headlights are turned on, I did have that hooked up, but then other things wouldn't work properly.

Ahh, yeah me mistaken. I thought you were trying to put the stock Cavalier radio into the Camaro Why the hell would you do that?

/me smacks self

Ok... sounds like you've got the gray wire for the illumination hooked to the wrong terminal. And the power to the radio isn't right... check the fuse?

Well, I'd like to check the fuse... but right now the car is 75 miles away from me.. lol

If I am not mistaken... there should just be one fuse for the radio, and I believe it's a 10 amp fuse, unless there is another one that I am over looking. I have blown that fuse once, and I think it ended up knocking everything out, the dome light, chimer, etc..

Is it possible to get a diagram of some sort possibly? I have all of the wires hooked up by color matching them mainly.

I really wish who ever had the car before me didn't cut the factory harness.

The best thing I could say is to go to the junkyard and get a 99 down 2nd or 3rd gen jbo stereo harness and cut it WAY back in the dash that way you can make sure all the colors match and also check those fuses
