I'm looking to add two Subwoofers (10-12") and an amp to my car. I have looked at some prefabbed boxes with subs in them but I wanted some opinions on companies.
There are a couple companies that stand out to me such as
Alpine,
Kenwood,
Infinity
and Dual
I was looking at Kenwoods 12" (KFC-W3010), and it seems like a quality subwoofer. I could always make or buy a box with some precut openings, then carpet them myself.
Now as for amps, where should I start looking? I was browsing some at local electronic shops and I don't even know where to start except for capacity.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
May I make a suggestion? MTX makes the Sledgehammer preloaded enclosures, and they're really a decent product. I'm not a hardcore MTX fan but that was the first sub I put in my Cavalier. When I built the new box for my current sub I actually modeled the design after their Sledgehammer boxes. They're fricken incredible. They come in dual even triple sub design, but honestly, one sub in one of their boxes will sound amazing.
They do look very nice. I was looking at
this enclosure and I was wondering is where I would purchase it from? I looked that the factory outlet site but could not find the specific box/sub combo.
ok, sorry for the double post. I did find it, and was wondering if anyone had suggestions for amps?
i would go with the mtx or kicker for a prefab box, for mtx check out the 5500's or 7500 sub's and make sure the box is 2 or 1 ohm.
for amp's you can get a deal at ikesound.com for a refurb amp but we have to know what you want out of the system, how much you want to spend and how much power you want to run.
no duals i have them in mine you can find much better
Thanks to ln2johnny, I have decided to go with
this. It seems decent and apparently is liked.
So about an amp, it reccomends 300-600 wrms. So what amps should I be looking at and how much would they cost? Thanks for any info you can provide.
Well, beore you go buy the MTX setup, let me throw this one at you...
Polk Audio db212-2
I went with this setup back in February after reading nothing but rave reviews. Performance Auto and Sound called it "the best sounding box we ever put in our car". I'd have to agree. Sounds absolutely great! I am running it with a Polk 500.1 amp. I am very impressed.

It's up to you to decide which you'd rather win.
Sorry, that quote is actually:
"...hands down the loudest subwoofer enclosure I've ever had in my car."

for working at a car audio place, the guy who made that quote must not have listened to a whole lot.....not trying to downplay your set up Ian, but that polk preloaded box set up could be beat to piss with a LOT of stuff that is out....
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

I just bought a 20 inch widescreen ultrasharp flat pannel..I'm going to have to subscribe to the high quality porn places now......damn
look into this one
its 2 ohm's not 4 like the link you have above that way you can find a amp to power the box with ease.
then find yourself a 1000 watt class D amp that way your get 600-700 watt's out of it at 2 ohms and you have power when you want to upgrade.
also for the 2ed time check out ikesound.com you can pick up refurb amps for cheep

No doubt it's loud but the MTX Sledgehammer I had was a single 7500 15" running on a MTX D-class amp at a little over 1000w and I couldn't stand it most of the time. It actually made my lungs hurt.
