replaced factory speakers

hey everyone , this is my first post and i have a question. I replaced my factory original MONSOON head unit and both door and rear deck speakers with all new gear in my 2000 sunfire gt . I opted not to keep the old head deck so therefore lost my door chimes ( didnt like them anyway ) All works well but it seems i have a volume problem. I need to turn it up more than when i had the factory setup in , I didnt use either of the PURPLE wires on the factory harness as there was no place for them on the new unit . But isnt one of them the gain control to the amp? please advice....thanks

there's no way you could possibly know that. there's no way to tell that volume level 15 on the new head unit is equivelant to 5 notches on the factory volume display bar. know what i'm saying? i used to turn the volume to 3/4 on the factory and be content with the loudness. now i turn it up to volume level 20 (about half way) on the new stereo and i'm content with the loudness.

on the same note...my first aftermarket cd player was really loud at volume 30. my new aftermarket cd player is really loud at volume level 18.

hopefully that made sense.

on a side note, when i replaced my factory speakers that went through the factory amp, i just ran new wires straight from the deck and took out the factory amp. it was easier than trying to figure things out.

If the amp wasn't turning on, that speakers wouldn't play at all.
