Going to from factory XM, to Pioneer XM!? help!?
Monday, February 21, 2005 10:52 AM
My buddy has an '03 with factory XM, I have recently sold him my Pioneer 8400mp which is XM ready. However the plugs are completely different! Is there a harness that converts one from the other?

Basically how do we get the factory XM working through a Pioneer XM ready deck?

Thanks!

My first thought it that the Pioneer unit won't be able to control the factory XM unit. But I'm not familiar with the factory XM setup. I don't even know if they would make an adapter to use the fac. unit at all. Probably easier just to buy the add-on Pioneeer XM tuner. Not too bad a price on ebay these days I don't think.

Brakes? I don't need no stinking brakes....I have air bags

As of now there is nothing to adapt the factory XM antenna to an aftermarket recevier. I haven't heard anything about the Delphi adaptor, but sounds like that will be the first option available.

Hightech, any idea on a price for that unit?

My buddy ended up just forking out $100 for the modules needed for the Pioneer deck, and hid the new antenna in the factory one, I love it !

I was going to get an Alpine Head Unit that is Sat. radio ready, I was also going to by the XM Direct Satellite Radio Package ( http://www.crutchfield.com/S-tCUUM5PyRSC/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?i=700XMALPIN&s=0&cc=01 ) I just wanted to reuse the factory antenna not the xm unit, is that not possible?

So you were able to hide the aftermarket antenna underneath the factory one? I want to do this upgrade, but i dont want an extra antanna or a useless one if possible. How were you able to do this?

We had to remove the headliner of course, antenna was held on by a nut of sorts, remove it, popped off the antenna, took out the guts, just a chunk of metal I believe, and slid the new one in. He used some sort of sealant to reinstall it, and it's held up better than I thought it was going to.

You'll find a way once it's all apart.
