Hi I just recently purchased a used Cd player from ebay. It came out of a 2004 cavalier. The Cd player is the base model one so its nothing to fancy. My question is how do I unlock the Cd player. Do I have to take it to the dealership or is there a way I can do it by myself. Also will I need the Vin off the car it came out of or will mine be alright. PLEASE HELP!! thanks Jason
Go to your dealer and yes it is matched to the original vin. not sure what info they'll need in order for you to use it.
Dealership, you don't need the original VIN to reflash it, but the dealer may ask you for it to verify that you bought it. That said... there's NO way to tell what VIN is inside it... so you could tell them whatever you want.
What you DO need to know to make the reflash happen faster, is the RPO code for the radio. It should be on the radio sticker. Usually starts with a U. For example, mine was a CD/cassette from a Z24... code UP0.
There is no way to use it without going to GM and using the Tech 2 to do the 'relearn' on the body control module.
They wanted $95.00 to reflash mine!

New Picture comming this summer.
the dealer may ask for the code. My dealer gave it to me when I bought my car a few years ago.
dude, my car is so base that the price tag is below the blacktop....my radio did not have any theft deterent system
I can plug it into another jbo 00 up and it comes right on
Try driving it.... it will lock up
All Delco radios 00+ have Theftlock. It has nothing to do with how "base" your car is, that's the way they were built. There's a fellow named Doug Seymour on here that makes them... if you don't believe me, you can ask him yourself
John, not to start an argument with ya, but the owners manuals from 2000+ state how to set up THEFTLOCK "(if equipped)". I can only assume that means there are some models out there that don't have it. Maybe GM misprinted the books? Just a guess. Jack may have a radio that doesn't have THEFTLOCK.
Can you clear this up for those that have a 2000+ system?

Ah... yes. All radios come with the little VIN learn theftlock. Some (in fact, I think MOST.... mine I could), you can also program your own user code, in addition to the user-programable code.
I see what you mean, John. My 2002 Trailblazer has the Theftlock system in it but I cannot put my own code into it. If it craps out, I gotta go to the dealership. I guess what I read in the Cavalier Owners Manuals wasn't spelled out to well by GM. It still brings up the retoricle question as to how can Jack have a radio that can be installed into any vehicle and still work? F.M. I guess!!

Hate to bring up old post. But this was the latest one I found.
Anyways, just want to let yall know. I installed a stock 05 HU into my 04 Cavalier. It showed it was locked at first, but after pressing buttons like I was playing Tekken, it unlocked and played everything just fine.
Any idea what I did? I have no clue
The stereo shop where i live does it, i don't know how, but you might be able to call around to a stereo shop and maybe they could do, and i'm sure it's cheaper than the dealership.....
NEW SIG COMING SOON FOR 07'!!!

Sounds like you figured out a way to do it! There's nothing published on making this work.... did it actually work while driving around? Or just in ACC? Because they'll usually work in ACC, just locks up when you go to drive the car.

we have a sheet at work, its to unlock MOST GM radios, ill find it on Friday and post it if you guys want. it usually works, but if not the dealer has to perform a VIN relearn or re flash as its also called.
