i wanted to do something like that. but if/when i sell my car, i'm just buying cheap paper 4x6/6x9's and tossing them in with a walmart cd player...so i didn't need any extra holes.

just cut the plastic waffle grille behind the cloth, it should give you some more clearance. use side cutters to clip it up.

what the hell did you just say. we speak in english here on the org....

i THINK you said that the speaker grill that came with the speakers is whats preventing it from fitting. if thats what you said, just take the speaker grill off. its not necessary, mine's not on.

it could be because of the bracket you made if you used the wrong size material. what'd you make it out of?

LOL

@!#$ i should have read it before posting. soooo many spelling mistakes lol

I made a adapter ring out of 3/4" mdf and i attached that to the car then i attached the speaker to that ring.. then when i try to put the pannel on , it sticks out in that corner.. like the whole things sticks out too much. I can try to just bolt it directly to the metal? with self tapping screws? maybe? and that will be 3/4" less space

any other suggestions? i dont really want to get into custom too much

when i made my adapter plates out of some 3/4 in mdf i had laying around, i had to couter sink the speakers down into the wood.

get a router or someone with really steady hands and a dremel with the router bit on them. i say really steady hands because the dreamel doesnt have the little thing to keep the tool flush and at the same deepth as the router does. i did mine free hand with my dreamel and they work, but the craftsmanship sucks.

i'll post pics later today or tomorrow i hope.

So you had the same problem i am guessing? what if i use thinner mdf or maybe just dynomat the area and use self tapping screws.. shouldnt rattle

i never had the same problem, i knew it would happen and thought ahead lol dont mean to be a smart alec. i was expecting that to happen and just countersunk the speakers untill they were flush with the face of the MDF.

kinda like this for lack of not having my pics at work...

your way:

|
|)
|)
|)
|

my way:
|
)
)
)
|

where | = MDF
and ) = woofer

there are 3 options here. make new ones out of new 1/4 in MDF or whatever wood you prefer (particle board, ply wood, etc). MDF is easiest to work with, cuts nice and easy.
you can salvage the ones you have and recess them so the woofer will sit flush with the MDF. i had to sink mine probably 1/2 of the way down.

or, you can take the easy way out and buy some plastic mounting baffles. i would leave that as a last resort, and just salvage the ones you have. the router bit for my dreamel was like $15 CDN. or go to somewhere like home depot and rent a router kit, or borrow one off a friend.

that sentance almost makes it sound like you mounted your MDF adapter to the stock speaker bracket...is that what you did? if so, you don't need the stock bracket, just use self tapping screws through the MDF adapter and your set.

...if thats NOT what you did, then you just bought a speaker with too deep of a mounting depth. get creative

ok.. i tried it again last night.. no go.. i now found out whats stopping it though..

the size of the speaker in the back.. ( the metal frame that holds the cone) is hitting the rectangular hole .. and if i make a bracket to extand it then the Tweeter and rim of the speaker is hitting the door pannel.

the speaker magnet is huge too.. @!#$ is there a way to do it without fiberglassing or anything.. its a sunfire so the pannel at that portion is not plastic and the window handle is right there too so i couldnt install it on the outside

whiteboy, i finally got that pic up i was talking about with the adapter i made for my 6" speakers.

i forgot to upload the pic of it behind the grill, but everything sits nicely with the speaker counter sunk into the 3/4" MDF.

i think his problem is the depth of the magnet...hey white boy, does your box/owners manual for the speaker give a depth?
