I was wondering if anyone knows if the ipod interface adapter (alpine or pioneer) comes with a base to set the ipod into. I am assuming the cord that comes with it will recharge it as well as be the the audio out too. Can someone lead me in the right way (pics would be nice too... pioneer website doesnt do much justice showing everything) thanks
If it doesn't I have seen a holder that fits in your cupholder if you're interested in that
i just installed the alpine system (cda-9851 head unit and the kac-420 ipod adapter) last month. the alpine adapter doesn't come with any sort of ipod holder. the cord recharges and is the audio output. as far as where i put my ipod, i drilled a hole in the back of my head unit install kit and ran the cable into the slot below my head unit. the ipod just sits in the slot while i'm driving.
i can take a few pics with my camera phone tomorrow if you want.
The pioneer adaptor is the same way. Plugs into the bottom of the iPod and charges it.

better idea, take the base you can get for the ipods at any apple store, radioshack, best buy,ect...i would say from one of the latter cause you can get a knock off of the ipod charger cradle and pc interface. there are several docking stations with multiple cords and adapters. all you gotta do then is figure out where you wanna mount it. they also make remote control units for Ipods. when i worked at radioshack i would sell a remote unit, charger, and 1/8" male to male patch cord to people with newer BMW's and they would set them in their center consoles and clip the remote to their dashboard.
use your imaginantion...endless possibilities
i wish i could go to a radioshack or best buy.. havent found one in japan yet.. lol. they are having a import auto show/electronics show thing in tokyo and if they have something there i will try and buy it (if its not for show only) I looked at the ones on apples store and they have that one that sticks into your lighter thing and it holds the iPod but i dont think it will allow you to hook it up that way and play ur ipod thru the adaptor at the same time... maybe ill just have to go for the cupholder one i saw at the base store (if they ever carry them again). It would be worth the sacrifice of using the driverside cup holder ipod instead of a drink.. lol
use the cupholder one...it will fit.
the other one is a waste of money....why pay 80 bucks for one feature that you'll actually use. i had one of those and it sucked....which is why i have the alpine system
I am not looking to glass anything quite yet (if at all). Just want something simple to use as a stand so when i have it connected, i dont have to throw it in the little space under the deck or in the space infront of the cup holders and have it sliding around. Just want something where its steady and ready to go when i wanna change songs or whatever
i dont know how you like what it would look like but i have one and i went to best buy and bought one that just clips onto the vent in your dash......i like where its at and how the ipod sits in there......then again like i said i dont know if your opinion on how it looks would be the same as mine.....ill take some pics tommorrow when its light out and post them up to show you exactly what im talking about......oh and that holder only cost $10 so it is cheap and very effective......that and its set right above my head unit so when my hands resting on the shifter its still just right there easy axcess.

Yeah i think I am going for the cupholder one. If i really need something to hold my drink i will just use the passanger side one and the passanger can hold their own damn coke. haha. I wonder if you can get them in different colors that match the iPod. Mine is black maybe have to paint it myself though. Which deck allows you to have full control of your iPod options? I thought about one of the pioneers with the flip out screen (the dvd not the navi) i think it allows for almost full control of your ipod settings and all.
My clarion one that p[lugs into my clarion DVD player didn't come with a base, so I'm going to flush mount my iPod into the center console/armrest area. I think It'll look pretty good with the video and everything.
heres mine nothing to special but i like it better than having it in the cup holder......

(the little cloth on this one is just something i put back there to help keep the back of my ipod from getting all scratched up.)
but then again i like this and its all a preference deal but i do like how easy access it is

How did u rig it to play on ur stock radio?? It looks sooo ghettofied... lol. I do kinda like how it looks easy to get to though. Do you have a problem playing it with the heater on (ipod overheat) or with any dew buildup from when u use the AC and when u get out.. ..the temp change will cause dew to form either on the outside or inside.
that thing would last 30 seconds in my car boom boom crash
i just used a cassette adapter and i plug it into where you would plug in the head phones and i ran the wire behind the dash so it wasnt such an eye sore.....and as far as overheating or dew build up i havnt had any problems yet and i live in nebraska and we get some migty cold winters.......and as far as easy access yes it is very easy to get to and control makes it so my eyes arent off the road as much while im driving
