OK guys, I get my HU delivered on Monday, and that will pretty much complete my system build. If you want to know what parts I'm using, check the "future" mods
HERE!
Anyway, i have a few small details i need to know.
1)
WIRE CONNECTORS
What do you guys use to connect speaker wire to the speakers? I don't want to be wraping bare wire around a screw (looks 1/2 assed to me), so i was planning on using spade connectors. In the case of the Kappa 693.7i for my rear deck, I was going to use quick connects since that's how the crossover connects to the speaker. I was also planning on using quick connects for the HU harnes. Is there a better connector i can use besides soldering? I have no way to operate a soldering iron where my car is parked, and I do not own a battery operated soldering iron.
I was going to get the quick connects and space connectors at Radio Shack. Anyone have a better place / brand to buy? I'm just affraid that since I went all out on the wires, that using a cheep connector will limit my system's potental.
2)
WIRE RUNS
I know I should run the power wire for the amp on one side of the car, and the RCA's on the other to elimnate noise interference. What about speaker wire for the front speakers? does it mater where they are run? Suggested locations?
That's about it for now... I'm sure I'll have more once i start to install everything or get close to it
1. Just use any Spades And Female Connectors. They will not change anything that you will be able to hear.
2. It dosent matter how you run the speaker wires. They can be run next to the power wire and it wont interfer.
Jeremy
does it matter if the rcas are beside the speaker wires? cuz my rcas were fine before that then when i amped the front speakers and the speaker wire goes by i get an aweeeful whining sound
wysiwyg wrote:i would say they bang, they don't really pound so much. but if
you want to bump, then they will bump and hit real hard and a lot good.
LOL
No the RCAs wont pickup any noise if they run near the speaker wire.
the speaker wires arent carrying alot of current, so not a big issue.
butane soldering irons are a good solution, but if you heat the wire up too much, u will fry it. electronics + too much heat = very bad.
solder and heat shrink is the best way. what i would do is get a small soldering iron, something like a 35W would be fine for doing the small wires for the harness and stuff. get a 12V DC to 120V AC invertor, just a small cheap one that can handle atleast the wattage of your soldering iron. get ROSIN CORE solder (VERY IMPORTANT!) and some heat shrink.
there is nothing wrong with just having the bare wire wrapped around the screw, it will be just as good a connection as if you used the spade connectors. granted the spade connectors look more profesional, as long as you dont have loose strands of wire all over the place, it will be fine.

Injection is nice but id rather be BLOWN!
Well, thanks so far guys... Because I'm straped for cash, I ended up using butt connectors for the harnes. That should be fine... The friend that installed my last sterio used them, and a few of the "how-to" videos" I watched also used them.
NOW... since my deck has FINALLY arrived, and I've startedto work on preping the wiring so I spend less time in the car... I've come up with a few more questions...
1) The Pioneer harnes has a ground wire with a spade connector already attached. Id I cur off that connector and attach it to the ground wire on the Metra harnes, or do I just ground that wire to the car?
2) I know there is no 12V accessory lead on the factory harnes (read it here, and ton he note in the metra harnes packet ). So,I would run a wire to the wiper fuse off the Pioneer harnes, and just cap off the power wire on the metra harnes?
3) I'm using a MIDI "add a circuit" adapter in the wiper fuse to power the deck. I read in that 10 page FAQ up top that I should use a 5 amp fuse for this application. Now my deck has a 10 amp fuse on it... So would I still use a 5 amp fuse on the new circuit, or a 10?
Thanks for all your help guys... this is my first Sterio install that I have done myself, and I want to make sure I do it right.
Sorry for the double post...
The pionner harnes has a orange/white wire labled "ILL". The Installer's instructions say that wire is for a lighting switch terminal. Now on the Metra harnes I have an Orange wire for Illumination. I also have a orange/white wire for dimmer.
Which wire does the orange white Pionner wire go to?
