HELP!!!! Amp problems
Wednesday, March 29, 2006 10:42 PM
My buddies amp in his Chevy Silverado is a single channel running two 10" type R's and it quit and has the CUR (current) warning for excessive current.

How do we fix this?
I checked all the grounds, fuses, power, everything, but can't find whats wrong.

Also whatever happened, melted the center of his one sub (dealer gave him a new one), but we tried reseting the power to the amp after putting in the new sub and still no diff.

I am totally lost and need some help to save my buddy some money. Thanks guys.

I use alpine religiously. From the information you've given I'd have to say there is a problem with his amp and he should probably take it back under warranty if there is any left. Aside from that I would recomment checking all the wiring. If you have a volt meter check how much power is coming out of the amp (On the speakers outs, the power in and ground). If the speaker outputs are putting out a huge amount of power and if the amp itself is getting overly warm I'd have to say the amps pooched. If there was so much power that it melted his sub than he should definately look into that. Sounds like there could be some major internal issues with the amp.

Sorry I couldn't help more but there is my suggestion.

Just like above...there is a problem with the amp, i would recomend getting it looked at before connecting it to any more speakers, or you will be spending more money replacing them. I f it happened once, it will happen agian. Get it checked out.

Thanks a bunch guys he got it in to the installers (my buddy has no idea how to do anything so he pays people) for 4pm and they think the amp is hooped and are replacing the sub and might be getting him a new amp if they can't fix it.

My buddy finally got it into the installers and they put another pair of subs (3rd in the one side) in and blew it as soon as they fired it up, so the total damage came to 5 - 12" Alpine Type S, and a V12 amp all miraculously covered by the amps warranty!!! He got his amp and two subs replaced and is back on the road pounding in that extended cab of his.
