I got a Sony Xplod head unit with Sony Xplod 500w amp and 12" sub but they are not installed yet... anyone kno if they sound any good?
DDDUDE!!! those should sound amazing! you should be able to hit like 180db on the spl meter!
i'll give you 3 grand for your set up!
if you havent realized yet, im poking fun...we are going to need ALOT more info than what brand you have. how about a model number or something, so if some one has the same thing, they can let you know what to expect....
this is only a friendly reminder that, try as we may, we arent mind readers.

I can tell you right now from that information given that most likely it will not sound very good at all. Sony makes terrible amplifiers and subwoofers.
Ok no need to be an ass all he asked was if the product was good. I had a mono amp and a 2 channel amp that was pretty decent. It was a lil over rated for power both times but did the job well. The subs I'm not to sure about though. I havent seen or heard of anyone personally that I know using them so I'm no help there sorry.

a buddy of mine uses 4 12" subs (they're the 1300 watt red octagon ones) running on a total of 1750 w. They're pretty loud, and considering all 4 max out at a total of 5200w (supposedly), I'd say they could get much, much louder. with their current power they can vibrate my car a bit when his window's cracked (as in slightly open).
Never tried the amps though. 6x9's could be a whole lot better than they are. I tried the ones at walmart with a Directed Xtreme 600 watt 2-channel amp and they sucked harsh.
Sony Xplode is not the best of brands out there as far as car audio goes. But If alls your looking for is a little more bass from your music, they will definitly do the trick.
mi wasnt trying to be an ass, but you dont always have to try to succeed... anyways, my friend has a sony 10" sub and amp, no idea the model because its not my stuff. he bought it from 2001 audio/video in newmarket, on. its in a sony ported box, so atleast the sub and box (hopefully) are matched well. thats probably why his sounds pretty damn good.
mine i think still beats his, but i have a bandpass. bandpass' ALMOST(dont jump down my throat, i said almost) always win when built correctly.

Sony xplode WILL explode on you. No doubt about that.
yea i havent heard very good things bout Sony Xplod but i got the set up for real cheap... anyone have an idea for a set up that bangs to hip hop music... nothin too expensive but still bangs
I wouldn't suggest bridging them. Well you only have one 12, but for anyone else reading this. Before my 2 Xplod 12's and 1200 watt amp got stolen, they were more on the spl side than anything. I've also still got an Xplod headunit that, to me, is one of the easier to maneuver and navigate headunits ive seen/used. I wasn't impressed with their 6x9's or 4x6's so i went to Pioneer. Seeing as how you can buy all the things i mentioned at Best Buy lol. Bottom line, for subs, they do the job and will sound good only if you haven't heard/felt/experienced a real high def, really nice system. If i may use the term, the Sony's would be a good "stage 1" set up.
they'll only sound as good as they box you build or buy for them.
They'll get the job done and you'll have some nice oomph.

Don't even get me started on Sony. When I was dumb and first got into car audio, I bought EVERYTHING Sony. The head unit, subs, amp, the whole works. The head unit would always cut out and turn off if I turned it up past the half way mark. If any hard bass hit, the head unit would turn off also. The subs sounded half way decent, but there was quite a bit of distortion. They couldn't hit low notes or anything half way challenging. After about 8 months, the subs blew out. And as far as the amp goes, it was WAY overrated. And just pounding it for 15 minutes got is sooo hot that it melted my carpet that it was sitting on. Ever since I changed to JL Audio subs, a Pioneer Premier deck, and Hifonics amps, I have been happier than hell with no problems at all. Basically, you get what you pay for.

Oh yeah, and as far as Sony's customer service goes, it sucks ass. I had that problem with my head unit from day one, and Sony said it was a problem with my car and they refused to replace it. (Although once I bought my Pioneer, I never had a problem with it)Same goes for the subs that blew out after 8 months. They said I overpowered them with their OWN amplifier that was suggested to be used with those subs :-)

Keep in mind, Usually products get better as their R&D department sets out new things for the new model year, but my experience with sony is bass ackwards in that instance. Also, hot much money did you spend on all of it? Cause if you got it on the side for cheap, you really shouldn't complain, not that you are...
Ive been rocking a 1200 watt sony amp for almost 2 years..ive NEVER once had a problem with it at all. Im not saying its the best amp but there not as bad as ppl make it out to be. I have it hooked up to my JL W3's. Havent touched it since installed..
sony explode is crap. they have d!ck all for sound quality.....

My friend bought new speakers for his car to replace the stock ones cuz it sounded like crap....Turned out that the guy who owned it before him had already change them out to explodes. I think thats a pretty good sign that the quality isnt all there.
sometimes its useless to try and steer people in the right direction, cuz there will always be the narrow minded people who dont let the info through their head...or the not-so-experienced people coming in flooding the thread with crap advice.... oh well ill give it a try....Bad will sound good until you hear better....and Sony is less than bad in my book and anyones book who knows what theyre talking about...

Without the knowledge of the first quote, the result is the second quote. I hate it when people come on here and say that Sony is not that bad. With a viewpoint relative to quality car electronics, Sony SUCKS! Ever wonder why you never see any REAL show cars with Sony equipment, or why you don't EVER see people at a serious sound competition with Sony stuff?? That right there says something.

The only good SOny Car audio product was the MP 70 and 80 series HU's. The rest is garbage.

I give up...
i'm buying a VW those people love trees, so they should love eachother too... "Andy"
the box is half the battle... ive been using q logic boxes. And ive had one dual voice coil sony p5 and it sounded great. Its rated for i think 350 rms and i had the mono d class running 900 to it. it was in there for a year and i never blew it. Now i have 2 12 inch single 4 ohm p5's. Sound great, have them in a ported q logic box now. I havent had any complaints...
only the deck i have from sony tends to skip and the longer i have it the more and more cds it doesnt like to read. Its like the middle of the road deck from them, dont know the model number off the top of my head...
I also have there speakers and they sound fine with one of there 4 ch amps.
Just depends what you want and how much you want to spend.
Theres better stuff out there tho so dont get me wrong =)

Incase you missed this post Jared...Not taking a stab directly at you, but seriously... do you know the Cubic Feet in that box? what its tuned to? probly not...then you hear someone running some real subs in a custom box built for them and you want to give that sony crap to the first garbage truck you see.
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

I know a girl who has 4 ~ 10" XPLODS, Xplod amps and xplod deck in her hatchback Civic and it sounded great. Other than that I have no experience with the stuff.
