Hey,
I've been working on installing my 791XV car alarm and remote start for the past two days.
Today I started actually soldering the wires in.
fast forward 5 hours.
I go to try and program the passlock module that I have - 556LW.
It says to turn ignition to on, back to off, back to on, back to off and then start the car.
Well, when I went to do the last step, starting the car, all I hear is this clicking sound coming from the starter. Almost sounds like what a really small machine gun would sound like.
I'm pretty sure it isn't the passlock doing its thing by cutting off the fuel because I've heard that before and this sounds nothing like it.
The only thing that I can think off that is happening is that when I tapped into the tach wire, I did something wrong. The DEI site says to use the white or orange wire from the ignition control module and I used the orange one.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also, if anyone has the wiring for the 556LW specifically for an 04 sunfire, that might help too.
Thanx
-Seth
Hey, sorry I missed you on AIM, I got home a couple minutes after you got off. Did you check the battery? Does it make the noise just when you try to start with the remote start or all the time? If it's all the time I would say put a charger on the battery and try again after it charges up. The other thing you need to do is tach learn the remote start. This will tell you for sure that you have the right wire. Once that's all done give it a try and let us know how it turns out.

The reason they give you an option for 2 different wires is because you have 2 ignition coils. the remote start monitors one of the ignition signals from the ECU and multiplys it by 2 to get the actual RPM's of the car. As far as the clicking sound, everytime i have heard that it has been a dead battery. could the remote start have possible left the ignition on and didnt start and ran the battery down without you knowing. 5 hours would be plenty of time for a battery to go dead
Thanx guys - besse ill try to catch u on aim again sometime.
I haven't even tried to remote start it yet. I was just trying to start it with the key.
My first thought was that it was a dead battery but domelights and everything work too but then again when ur cranking it takes a lot more juice.
I unplugged everything as far as the alarm goes and I'm going thru the passlock relearn just to make sure.
I'm trying to figure out how the battery coulda died though. I had the negative unhooked the whole time that I was installing stuff.
Now i just have to figure out how to charge my battery being that I don't have a charger... hmmm...
I'll keep this updated as the night wears on.

K, well I tried doing the passlock relearn and that didn't work.
So, I've come to a conclusion and why it happened.
My battery is dead. And I can most likely blame it on me not following directions. When hooking up some of the main ignition power wires, the manual says to "remove the fuses until connected to control module" or something like that. Well, me in my hurried state to put in my alarm decided I didn't want to take them out. I assume that all the power got drained because I didn't pull out the fuses first.
I'll try to find a charger tomorrow and then see if I can get it to start.

your batt didnt die because of that. if you had the negative disconnected the whole time like you said. although it does sound like you have a dead battery
only thing I can think of is a dead battery as well
Yep it turned out it was because of the battery and had nothing to do with the install.
I found out that it was my ground wire not connecting good enough. Thats why I had lights and everything but I couldn't get the starter to go. The battery was involved in a wreck before and I had noticed my battery tray corroding and such but I never put two and two together. I took a wire brush to the negative cable after finally having it jumped and then figuring out what it was. I put it back on there and it worked fine.
My mom bought me a new battery though cause she didn't like that it was "leaking", so I got a new battery and some new posts and I put some battery protecter goo on it too and it works perfect.
I still find it ironic that the alarm didn't cause any of my problems. Hopefully when I go to finish/redo the install this weekend, it'll work just fine.
Thanx for the help guys.
-Seth
lol yup, dead battery. ironic that it happened as you were doing your alarm.
as for your battery leaking, that definitely needed to be replaced.

IT STARTED - YAY!!!!!!!!!
the remote start is now working and I will be installing the security part of it tomorrow.
It turns out that the battery was exactly what was wrong with it the first time.
