Starting Problems
Wednesday, March 01, 2006 8:22 AM
I just traded in my 01 sunfire A/T for a 05 cavalier M/T i have noticed that sometimes when i try to start it, it will not start. the on position on the ignition works fine everything comes on but I am assuming it is either a bad clutch position switch or the ignition switch the starter works fine and does not make any noises when it doesn't start so the starter i would believe is out of the question. Have any of you had to replace one of these in your cars, and if one of you know what does a ignition switch cost. I know the clutch position sensor would be cheep and i am going to wire that straight for awhile for diagnostic reasons and just be careful not to start it without the clutch in.

Actually watch where your cluth pedal is. I thought I had the same probelm, but the florr mat was stuck up under the pedal and I wasn't pushing the pedal in far enough. (was when I first got the car)

still check to see if ur connections on ur battery are tight because the same thing happened to me and it turned out to be that my negative terminal wasnt completely tight but i still got power, just not during crank

Well turns out the POS aftermarket starter inhibator was malfunctioning and causing the car to only be started very spontanisly. SO I GANKED IT OUT!!
