Audio Noob: Advice on parts needed/appreciated

I'm looking for a complete setup, minus the headunit. Here is a list of what I'm looking at:

Front Speakers: Pioneer TS-A4670R
- 3 way speaker, 2-20 watts RMS, peak power 120 watts

Rear Speakers: Pioneer TS-A1681R
- 4 way speaker, 2-50 watts RMS, peak power 260 watts

4 Channel Amp: Polk MOMO C400.4
- 75 Watts RMS x 4 @ 4 ohms, 100 watts RMS x 4 @ 2 ohms

Subwoofer: Kicker Comp VR 05CVR102
- Dual 2-ohm voice coils; Power Handling: 50-300 watts RMS; Peak Power 600 watts

Mono Subwoofer Amp: Polk MOMO C500.1
- 350 watts x 1 at 4 ohms, 500 watts x 1 at 2 ohms; 2 ohm stable

My goal behind this system is mid-range speaker sound + sharp bass, with good reliable power. I'll have an Optima Yellow Top powering it. So, down to business: I've been reading reviews and all of the above products have gotten consistent high consumer ratings, as well as editorial ratings. Any advice the members here could offer? Thanks in advance!

Cool setup! What type of enclosure are u using for the sub? I take it that ur wiring the sub for a 4ohm load seeing as how the amp isnt 1 ohm stable. I really dont know much about Polk and Pioneer, but IMO Kickers are really good if ya have the right amp pushing it. I was thinking about running an amp for my components also but they sound pretty good with just the headunit. Im sure the audio guru's here on the org could help more than I can.

My suggestions: Front speakers - go with a 6 1/2 inch component. It'll sound way better than a 4x6, and handle more power of course. Everything else looks pretty good.

Sub - Why not get a dual 4 ohm sub? If you have your gains set right, you shouldn't blow them.

Dragon24: I intend to glass an enclosure in the spare tire area, with a custom mount for the tire "floating" above the sub in the well (this is WAY later though). The enclosure will be glassed in, recessed under the stock cover so that I still have nearly all my trunk space.

LANman31337: I don't think I'd really care about the sound as much to put component in...how much more expensive would the cost be for component versus these speakers? Right now I'm looking at $80 a pair. Also, if I go with a Dual 4 Ohm sub, would the Kicker CompVR 05CVR104 be a good choice? Its the same sub, but it's a 4 ohm instead of 2.

You definately won't be disappointed with a kicker, I'd recommend putting it in a sealed box, they produce mighty tight bass.

As for the 3ways and 4ways, their not bad, but you'll get a lot more range of sound by using components. You can land some component sets for $80, but it would be WELL worth waiting an extra payday and putting in ~140 for components.

Rears are minor, anything will work really, I don't even have any and I still have a full soundstage.

BradSk88: Would you be able to recommend a set of front and rear component speakers for the car? I hear the name "Polk," "Infinity," and "Audiobahn."

Out of the three, I would probably recommend Infinity, only because I've had okay experience with their products. Polk I've heard doesn't make very good components, they may have changed, but I know their old stuff was crap.

And I've never actually worked with AudioBahn.

I personally have the Brand Ultimate and love them. I would recommend you go to your local car audio shops and Best Buys and stuff and listen for yourself. Everyone's ears are different, and you want to ge the speakers that sound best to YOU.

BradSk88: I've been planning a solid day to devote to it, but I wanted to know just generally which brands I should immediately check out to save time at the store. I've never heard of Ultimate, but I wasn't aware Polk was considered crap. Learn something new every day

If those 4x6's are along the same quality of the TS-G4640R's don't get them. I blew mine shortly after I got them, and they sounded like crap before I did anyways.

I would probably go with a component set instead of the 4x6's Infinity or maybe Rockford Fosgate. The way that's sounding, even such a low-power sub will overpower your highs and mids. I'd get at least one set of componenents to try and balance that, and maybe a nice set of 6x9's instead of the 6.5's? JMO.

Good luck with it.

I got my Infinity Reference 6010cs's for about $80 off of Ebay, and I like them plenty.

i dont use rears in my cavalier. having too many sources messes up your imaging and staging because the frequencies can cancel eachother.

i have 2 6" coaxils in the front and a 10" DVC @4Ohms a piece in the rear, everything powered by one 4 channel amp pushing 30RMS a channel.

sounds better than most people who have spent double or tripple what i have.

Injection is nice but id rather be BLOWN!

Polk Audio db5250 Component Speakers are on sale for $152 at crutchfield.com. They're the same range, power, frequency response, ohms, and relative size as the Alpine Type S, Infinity Reference 6010cs, Polk Audio MMC5250, and the Polk Audio MMC6500. The difference is, the Polk Audio MMC5250 and the Polk Audio MMC6500 are $300 and have Lacquered Carbon Fiber woofers.

I'm leaning towards the Polk Audio db5250 Component Speakers since they're cheaper and seem to have exactly the same features. The only set that has a better frequency response is the Alpine Type S (instead of starting at 53, they start at 35).

So, any recommendations out of these? If I go component, I'll be picking the db5250's for front and rear, at the moment. Comments?

Hertz are usually rated in multiples of 5.
I'd be willing to bet that 53 is 35

Also, the polk audio uses a silk polymer tweeter where the Alpine uses titanium. I'd really recommend going with Alpine.

Ok, I'll check into the Type-S components, thanks for pointing that out.

Is it a bad thing to rely on Crutchfield only for my info? I haven't found a lot of reputable looking online retailers that allow me the flexibility and info that Crutchfield does.
