Speaker Question
Sunday, February 19, 2006 9:52 PM
In my 99 Pontiac Sunfire I'm running a Premier™ In-Dash CD/MP3/WMA/WAV Receiver with OEL Display for the head unit and currently have Pioneer 6x9 3-Ways with 230 Max/80 RMS power rating.

I've been looking into 6x9 speakers and the best I've found really are the Pioneer 6" x 9" 5-Way Speaker with 460 Max/80 RMS. Does anyone know any better speakers that are 6x9 or can fit with adapters?

For the front I've been looking into 4x6, 5 1/4, and 6 1/2 inch speakers and again the best i've found are the Pioneer 6-1/2" 4-Way Speaker with 260 Max/50 RMS

Again, I'm willing to make adapters, but can anyone recommend better 6x9, 4x6, 6 1/2 or 5 1/4 speakers that will cover the High/Med for my sunfire better than these?

Im going to throw in subs for the lows later on, but I want a base setup before I start with those.

Are you looking for just powe ratings or actaul SQ speakers, cause Both Boston and Infinity seem to be the best there.

as el fuego said, infinity and boston wont let you down for SQ. for volume, look for wattage. but proper size speakers in proper locations will always be louder than pure wattage.

i'd stick with a quality set of two way co-axials if i were going that route, going with 4-way 6.5" speakers is just marketing hype u dont need 4 speakers like that. just go with a quality set of two way coaxials. think of it this way if you have a 4-way speaker that cost 200$ and you have a 2 way coaxial that cost 200. that means you have the choice of 4 50$ speakers or two speakers woth 100$ each. i would go for two quality speakers versus 4 low quality ones.

There are a lot of brands out there that are better than Pioneer. Go to some audio places and listen to the speakers and decide what you like.

As far as the power ratings, if you're running the speakers off the deck, they're getting around 12-15 watts.
