Advice for a wall in the cavi
Thursday, February 09, 2006 12:31 AM
This summer i was gonna redo my system and what not and i was gonna do some minor changes but i decided to go all out and do a wall. I was thinking 3 15'' alum15n's but im not sure if this will be a good choice. I know alot of people here have strong opinions about audio so i really would like honest input about subs. I have a a2200hct thats 1600 watts at 1 ohm. The alum15n's are 6ohm dvc. I was gonna wire it down to 1 ohm and run the amp like 70% power. Now some real questions are should i seal the wall off from the rear of the car ( ive seen like mostly wall but in reality its just a really large box with small spaces on teh side and top) Shall i port this beast which will make the depth of the box a whole lot more. Now im open to suggestions for different subs but i dont want to spend a fortune on subs and im not looking to kill at db drags just be loud as @!#$ for my own happiness. Ive heard a wall in a pt cruiser and it had like 6 jl w7 it was just disgusting. Will this amp be enough for what want? Im gonna be using 2 deka agm battery which have about 1.25 times the capacity of the optima yellow tops. I get the deka battery for 125. Ratings are as follows. 69.5lbs, 10" long 7" wide 10" high, cca at 0 degrees 800 and 1000 at 32 degrees, discharge time of 200 minutes at 25amp draw, and 53 min at 75amp draw. Doing 2 farad cap (is it enough?) Also running audiobahn 6 channel amp to 4 components speakerrs up front and 2 in the trunk lid. fiberglass amp racks with plexy worked in somewhere with frosted edges and leds in respectable positions. Distribution blocks in their respectable places, fuses etc... I also will have an audiobahn aeq6 eq with sub control and what not. Id really like to know if their is an altenator for the ecotec that will put out a little more. I doubt it but it would be nice. Ive played with car audio but i dont claim to know all that much so any input would be greatly appreciated.

hmmmm. You don't *have* to do a wall. You could squeak those into your trunk if you wanted to. If you want to do SPL, by all means port it. Porting does require a bigger box however. If you are going to do a wall, your best bet would be to seal it off from the trunk, so there's less area to pressurize. Don't run a cap. Are the components in the trunk lid for show? Personally, I don't like the sound of the aluminum subs, or most Audiobahn subs for that matter, but to each his own. And if you're going to spend that kind of money for 3 subs, why not get 2 good subs that'll get you down to 1 ohm? If done right, 2 12's or 2 15's or 1 solid 12 or 15 can sound loud and good. I was running 1800 watts rms with 1 stock battery and a red top with no dimming whatsoever.

if you run 3 15s you are more than likely not gonna fit them all on a flat plane. Im trying ot picture mine with out the port and it may. it'll be close. But it may squeak in. As far as sealing it off yes do it. Less car to pressurize equals alot louder and alot more violent. The alum 15 should be ok for a daily car. I have a buddy who has an alum 12 with an audiobahn 800 watt amp in a turdrango that wails. It may be the box though. (CRX box ported to 35hz. dont know who designed that)

A lot of it is in the box design, most definitely.

ok well its all still figments of my imagination although i have alot of money to do what i want im not looking to do anything right away i want to research and everything so i know what im getting into. I will seal it off then any recommended ways of doing this? I was thinking a mixture of fiberglass and mdf. I really want to do 2 15'' resonent engineering subs but they are really up there in price. I could get the three 15''s from audiobahn for one of those subs although i know they are quality and slam. Why no cap? Any suggestions on box designs i know there are tons of different types of ported boxes. Should i use sqaure or round ports. Any info much appreciated thanks guys

square ports take up more face space on the box. If you did it like this:

woofer port woofer
woofer

you may be able to fit it all on one plane. To seel it off. Use 2x4s on the outside of your box on the sides youll need to seal off. use cardboard to mock up the design you;ll need to follow to seal it. Transfer that to mdf and there you go. Wont mess up your interior at all and depending on what you use to cover it wil be almost a perfect seal.

I was also thinkin of doing a wall also, mostly for show. take out my W7's, and put like 9 10w3v3's and add 2 more 1000/1's

Do your wall and post pics, wouldn't mind seeing how yours looks when finished.

oh and for the diamond amp and teh woofer ive had good experience with diamond audio id look into a cm3 they are comparable to the aluminum and if your looking for some rockin bass look into the tdx i had one twelve ported box and a 1200.1 audiobahn amp that crap was loud as hell i was teh loudest @!#$ in my town but yeah i know there is louder stuff and a tdx runs about 300-400

what subs you gonna run and how many? Im assuming your running re like everyone else i see thats got a mad setup. See i read the post about the new ones coming out and they just look so great but i dont have that kinda money to dump into the car especially after building the turbo kit. I mean i got a good chunk of change to cover the system but not 599 for the subs that i want from re the Mt's i think they are called they just look ungodly.

mts are 483 shipped to ny. Thats a 15 and an 18 is not that much more. you need some serious power to make the mts wang though.

a couple thousand watts. is the 2200hct the 1300 watt amp or the bigger one?

Re: Advice for a wall in the cavi

audiobahn rates it at 1600watts at 1 ohm and its one ohm stable. SO the aluminums have dual 6ohm voice coils and i was gonna wire the three of them down to 1 ohm. I would have to turn the gain down on the amp a bit but it should work out the way i want so we will see. I personally think it will loud enough for me i just want to focus on building the box to the correct dimensions and making it look flush.
