trunk battery install

I was wondering on how to wire up a battery in the trunk so it is able to stay charged? Where does the wire connect to? any help would be appreciated

same place it connects to when its under the hood......just needs a longer cable to reach the trunk...and it has to be a bigger gauge of wire...and if you ever go to the track you need an external on/off switch

would you benefit any running the constant off the alternator? so it's gettin a direct charge instead off pulling it from the battery and the alt having to run 2. it's kinda like a capacitor if it's ran off the cars battery. I'm just asking this to get some answers myself. I've always though it would be better but dunno cause I've never done it.

electrically speaking, it's the same either way. the alt still has to charge both batteries. and the wires will still be connected the same just at a different end.

Ditto. Make sure it is fused less than 18" away.

If you are thinking about competition; it has to be securely mounted, sealed and vented outside the car.

what is to be vented and how?
Re: trunk battery install

If your not using a gel battery like an optima battery (the big yellow thing in my sig), your battery needs to be vented.

In another words, you buy a $15-20 battery box, put your battery in it, secure the box with battery to the car, by either a bolt, or velcro, then you have to have an air vent. You put a hose through a knockout found on most battery boxs, or drill a hole in the BOX, and only the box if needed. Route the other side of the hose either to one of the rear trunk vents or under the car.

If you dont, pressure could build up in the battery and explode.

yes..also fused within 18" of BOTH BATTERIES..meaning you need two fuses on the wire connecting the batts together

so you can wire two batteries together w/o an isolator?
what if you want accessories on one batt and the car on the other?

sorry not trying to jack your thread.

Go to a boating shop. Marine battery isolators are high quality and pretty sweet looking.

You can also use a circuit breaker, plus a bigger amp alternator is helpful

I think he meant instead of a fuse.

A second battery, plus amps with a decent amount of wattage, will kill your alternator. Last year I had to replace both Optimas, we thought 1 had a bad cell and killed both. This year same problem, found it to be a leak past the rectifier bridge of the stock alternator draining the batteries. The stock alternator can't keep up with demand and dies. So I got an Ohio Generator alternator.

A friend of mine a few years back had a system in his cavalier and it constantly had a battery issue. He brought it to me to figure out what was going on.

1. The first problem was that the cavalier alternator could not keep up with the electrical draw of all the components in the car.
2. I was surprised my self how much the car it self drew with the lights on and AC on, it ended up close to 45amp of draw without the stereo system on.
3. Then I tested with the amplifiers on at a loud listening level, his car was having peek current draws of 182amp of draw. Average draw of 130amps.
4. So simple math 65amp alternator minus 182amps draw = - 117 amp. So his system was running in the negative. Which meant for the car to keep going it was drawing everything from the battery to the point where it damaged the battery.
5. I replaced the battery and before replacing the alternator found that there was a draw leaking past the rectifier bridge in the alternator. It was small but enough that in a few days time it could kill a battery.
6. Last but not least I got him an Ohio generator that put out 150amps I told him that this was boarder line of what he needed for his system since he was averaging 130amps of draw and peaks of 180.
7. All this seemed to fix his set up he still has his car with all the equipment in it and no more dead batteries.
