96 Cav .. what other GM CD players can i use?
Monday, January 16, 2006 5:43 AM
Hi, I have a 96 Cavalier. 2dr with just the AM/FM tape player. I want to just go to a wrecker or ebay or something and find a CD player that I can swap in quickly & cheaply. I'm wondering what other CD players will be plug & play in this car?

Ie, can I use stereos from Sunfires too? Other GM cars? Could someone give me a listing of vehicles or part #s or something that will fit in my car??

Thanks

Yeah, it's just that the stock radio broke, and I don't wanna spend much money on it really. I figure I could go to a wrecker and get a stock CD player from some car for probably 20 bux, which is a bit better than paying for an aftermarket one + wire harness adapter + mounting brackets, etc....

well heres the thing....
when i was building my stereo, i wanted a factory cd player aswell.

i thought i could save some money and it would look better. the factory decks were going for more than some aftermarket decks were.

you can use another factory cd player and from what i remember they are a direct fitment.

depending on what tape player you have, you can also use a slave cd player or a cd changer.

the slave cd player is a cd player seperate from the head unit. you can get a GM factory slave from some of their trucks. suburbans, jimmy's, etc, used them

this is what they look like.

when i was looking, if i got one, i was going to mount it in my center console of my '98.
it would have gone right underneath the current tape deck in that lil compartment thats there.

this can only be used with tape players that have the TAPE/AUX button on them i think.

if you do a bit of research on google, you can find out.
